Visiting other on-site resorts - Is this discouraged?

I was reading through the Unofficial Guide (2002) Edition, and it mentioned that the only way onto the property at AKL is to either stay there, or book a PS at Jiko. On our Sept. trip, we'll be staying at OKW, but had planned to "peak in" at a few of the other themed resorts, such as AKL, WL, Poly, etc. (I've never seen any of them, and you people make them sound very cool :D ). So is this discouraged by Disney? Is it considered rude? I just want to look around and appreciate the decor, and maybe shop or grab a bite. Thoughts? Thanks for any input.

I think when the AKL first opened, it was exclusively for use by guests of the hotel or patrons of the restaurant. I guess they were worried that the place would be swarmed with animal watchers. To my knowledge, it's not a problem to visit there now- I know several people on this board have checked it out without any hassle.

Could be I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the policy of entry to the AKL had changed.

This is kind of tradition for us every trip. We make it a point to stop at all of the Monorail Resorts. My wife hits every gift shop along the way!!!

You will have no problem visiting other resorts, we went to most of them this past December to check out the different Christmas decorations. The monorail resorts are easy, just take the monorail from the MK or Epcot. For the other resorts we just got on a bus from the parks to go to other resorts, it took some time but we enjoyed it. We would come out of the park, and get the first bus to a resort that would come along, then we come out of the resort and grab the first bus to go back to a park.

Hi there...

If you drive to a resort the security usually why you are there and checks that you have a PS on his list before you park.

If you take the resort bus - no one asks you anything - enjoy looking around...

We also visit several resorts every trip including AKL a couple times. Sometimes we went to eat, other times just to look around, and that is what we told the guard entering the resort. They just check your drivers license, sometimes they give you a 2 - 3 hour parking pass, though we use valet. We've never had a problem.

I've found that if you have a parking pass for one location you can drive to any other without any asking you anything.

Definitely check out AKL!!!! I would do this on your AK day. You could go over for lunch- there is a food court by the pool. It's only a five minute bus ride away from AK. When we stayed there , we were coming back from DTD and for some reason there was a couple on the bus that were not staying at AKL. The lady "oohed an aahed as we drove up. I told her that they should really get off and look around. She wanted to , but her DH wouldn't budge. MEN!!!! Think of all the things this poor lady is going to miss out on in life. Oh, well...her choice.

Visiting other resorts is one of our favorite things to do while at WDW. On our December trip, we saw visited all of the resorts except Caribbean Beach Resort, which was closed for rehab. We loved our visit to AKL. We were lucky enough to be there when it was feeding time for the animals, and enjoyed watching that! While we were looking around inside, Boma smelled so good that we asked how long we would have to wait since we didn't have a PS. Five minutes later, we were seated at our table and ready to enjoy the most wonderful dinner! I can't wait to go back.
