Visiting in December? Zika?

I am very surprised that I can't find more on this online, so hoping someone can help me out. My husband and I have had a WDW trip for September planned for months, but with the Zika scare I'm a little hesitant to go now. I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and I will be 16 weeks at the time of visiting. It's our 10 year anniversary as well, so we were super excited about going 1 last time (just the 2 of us that is). BUT, there's no way I am putting my unborn child in harms way so I was hoping WDW staff or fellow visitors can put my mind at ease. We bought the bug spray that the CDC said was the best to repel the Zika carrying mosquito, but we are wondering if we should push off the visit until December or not go at all. So any thoughts on the trip in Sept or pushing the dates off until December? Would that even help?
Thank you everyone!!

I would recommend you confer with your doctor and do some research on how the mosquito spreads/lives/dies based on climate. When does the virus most dangerous to the baby? Are you in the clear after so many weeks? Again, ask your doctor.

This is going to be a personal decision that you will have to make. Currently aka as of today there are 14 suspected cases of local Zika in a very small area North of Downtown Miami. There as the only suspected local (USA) originated Zika location.

No one really knows what is possible in Disney World area in the future. Disney does have a very active pest management program and we have had more issues with bees then with mosquitos at WDW.

Note: There is a much bigger mosquito thread here: http://disboards.com/threads/anyone-concerned-about-the-mosquito-talk.3522336/

Definitely consult your doctor as he/she probably has recommendations for you. That being said, go with your intuition. If I was at all concerned, I would cancel and head somewhere else for my babymoon. Disney will still be there next year perhaps when you can travel without this particular worry. Good luck!

This is something to speak directly to your OB/GYN about.

Yes I talked with my fertility doctor and he didn't have much to say (yes that was before I saw the 4 cases in Miami that scared me into asking this question). My next/first appt with my OB-GYN is in 2 weeks but I need to try and make a decision this week ($3000 is due 8/8!). I was thinking December would be better and just wear my bug spray. I am from south GA so I know it's cooler in December but not by that much. Hoping the mosquito season dies down a little in December in Orlando and that was my main question to everyone. This would be my 6th trip to Disney and I have to say I have never been bitten while there (and I always go during the summer). I have enough common sense to know that no one knows what the weather will be like. Just hoping there's less noticeable mosquitoes during December and then I can go from there. Thank you. :)

Thank you but I couldn't find the thread when I clicked on your link. But I have been following the CDC site like crazy. We said this was the last week to even think about it and of course the 4 confirmed cases in Miami pops up. That made us think about something else or "possibly" pushing the date to a cooler month, etc.

I've been to WDW over 40 times, every season. I don't think there is a month that I haven't booked. I think I've had, maybe, 3 mosquito bites in WDW. They do a great job keeping the little suckers at bay.
Having said that, I can't say what I would do if I was in your situation. Only you can make that choice.

Thank you! Yeah I keep reading they have excellent bug control procedures and my mind was 100% set until last Friday. My cousin even visited last week and I had her on a mosquito hunt...lol. But we are also looking at a Disney Halloween cruise that goes to Canada right now as well. No one can say they wouldn't do the same thing! This is not a babymoon. We didn't have much of a honeymoon because my husband was deployed right before the wedding and we had to get up to Maryland in 3 days after the wedding. We always said our 10 year we would do something nice and we have had this trip set since the first of the year with the countdown on my desktop at work. But that all changed when we found out we were pregnant. His/her safety is #1 priority now! :)

There is a mosquito thread on the TPAS board that is pretty decent about getting updated with current info. This thread will likely get merged into that one.

I believe this is a very personal decision. WDW/Orlando is not currently an active transmission area for Zika, but Miami, or at least a small part of Miami, is.

The issue is that information is being updated weekly or faster right now and a lot can change from now to a month from now. Good luck with your decision.

Could you use the money towards Disneyland instead? It's not the same but it's still Disney... Compact and magical! Zika free as well...plus if you've never been, it'd be a whole new experience! My DH is anti-Disney (poor guy..we have return visit to WDW in three weeks with my parents... Lol) but he'd take DL over WDW any day!

You are correct, I had the wrong link, that old copy/paste and my fingers again. I have corrected and here it is for you reference.

One of my friends is pregnant and her doctor advised against her going on the Florida trip they had booked for August. He told her that at an appointment she had a few weeks ago.

Can you just call your doc and ask over the phone?
