I'm new to all this...If we were to dine at one of the Disney Resorts or wanted to go and check one of them out, are we able to park there for free? And are we able to use the Disney Transportation (monorail) while visiting the resort?

Thanks!

Yes, you are able to park for free, and you can use any Disney transportation (buses, boats, monorails), whether you're staying on site or not. You may be asked to show a photo ID at the guard shack upon entering the parking lot.

At certain very busy times of year (Christmas, other holidays), parking may be restricted at certain resorts, typically the deluxes closest to the theme parks. If you happen to be visiting at one of those times of year, you might need a reservation at one of the resort's restaurants to park there. Or, you can combine your resort visit with a theme park visit, and just leave your car in the theme park lot and take Disney transportation to the resorts.

For instance, the MK parking lot (TTC) has monorail access, and from there, you can visit all of the monorail resorts. If you're in Epcot, you can exit through the International Gateway between the UK and France, and walk or take a boat to YC, BC, the Boardwalk, Swan, and Dolphin.

Keep in mind that while you can park at a resort for shopping/dining/exploring, it is limited to 3 hours. Parking at a resort, then heading off to a park for the day is not allowed.

Parking at a resort to "visit the resort" and leaving the resort isn't technically allowed.

I would suggest doing valet parking. A valet pass is good for the whole day even if you drive to another deluxe resort, you just need to show them your valet ticket.

You can use the buses and the monorail.

We just got back from a quick weekend and stayed at th Gaylord Palms resort. Which is fabulous and they have their own bus to take you to and from but once your on property your on your own. We had dinner reservations at grand Floridian. We took a bus to Hollywood studios from magic kingdom.

If you're driving they will check to see if you have reservations at the gate entrance. They will ask why you are on their front step. You can not leave your car there and go to the parks. They give you a parking pass with a time limit I believe.
