Visa Free Dining -- too bad!

Hey... I feel like it's a rip-off that we can't take advantage of this visa offer.
I called today and we would qualify for the dates and stay for the free dining but alas we have no Chase Bank Visa card available to us here. I had even called in the spring to see if I could get one after our trip in march but no go.
When I was talking to the guy at grand gatherings about my reservation and he said it was only for visa card holders I said nonchalantly "ohh that's a rip for us canadians" to which he very hotly replied "well you canadians have a good deal on the exchange ... your money is worth more than ours so you can't have everything" ... I replied "well actually our dollar is only worth just over 90cents to your dollar actually" and then he said "listen you already have a code on your file and you saved 250.00 over the regular cost so that's good enough"..... Nice. "actually I said if I had a visa card I would save another 1000.00 off the dining for the 4 of us so that would be nicer"
He then asked if he could do anything for me and then when I said no i guess not he said have a magical day and hung up!!!

I agree that this really is unfair to Canadians! When is Disney going to see that Canadians are people too! Does anyone know if you have to actually be a resident of the United States to get a card or do you just need a us mailbox? Probably worth renting one if thats all it takes! It won't cost more than $1000.00!!!!!!

I spoke with a Chase Bank guy at DTD last year - if you signed up for a card you got a free Disney bag. No dice....not for Canadians.

It is just like this new promotion for next year with the birthday thing - to me this is geered for US residents who can drive or make random plans to accommodate their birthday and get in free or get a $75 gift card. Given that us Canadians are already dropping $1000+ on flights or gas and hotels.....if your birthday isn't during your one big vacation....you're out of luck.

Gee I guess the Canadian economy has to be really bad to get us the good offers (remember the good ol days of buy-one-get-one free passes and Canadian at par.......)

I am pretty sure, it's more to do with having credit in the US. I am an American and my husband's Canadian. When we were first married he moved down south with me. He was surprised as was I to learn that Canada and the US don't trade credit history. He basically had to start from scratch to build his credit.

Also, we still have a US credit card, we don't use it because the fee's to convert from US to Canadian are outrageous!!

I agree it's so unfair.

Seattle and Honolulu are much farther from WDW than Quebec and Toronto.

Who is sponsoring this promotion? Chase, Disney or Visa?

New Jersey folks get a special deal (every year?) but New Hampshire folks don't.

I have a number of credit cards sitting around unused at home because every now and then I apply for a new card to get a bonus offer. Then randomly I get a letter from one credit card company offering triple rewards or extra bunches of airline miles and I start using that card and stop using the card I was using the previous week.

Yeah I think this plains *sucks*. However, I gotta say it's more all for the USA, and none for the rest of us. There are plenty that go to DW...it's just that we are attached by the border. Still have to fly like the rest of them.

NOw, I can totally understand... US company, trying to help out the US economy and population blah blah blah. Bad business not to offer certain offers to the rest of the people that adore Disney World. I got a deal on the resort package. True I am saving money. I am a stay at home one income family. We are by no means rich and I have never even allowed myself to dream of DW because I never thought it would happen..but it is!!!! banana: ) Free Dining would definitely put me on , It would make me spend a heck of a lot more on those frivolous things like stuffed animals and tshirts and JUNK that we just don't need. lol They will profit by doing this. I know they will.

JUST GIVE US THE OPTION OF FREE DINING!!!! It's not like there aren't rooms left over. Even if there arent many, let some of us have the oppurtunity to snatch up the American's left overs. We are used to it. (bad joke!)

Yes remember when the BOGOF passes were great but that was when our buck was less than 60 cents!!!

They don't do much for Cdn's anymore even if you are a DVC owner!!

We often get a 'jump start' on discounts with Disney (usually the January-March promo and last year the April-May one). Amazing how so many posters 'round these parts forget that when the current discount being offered does not work in their favour.

Being a US citizen I do not think its fair that UK residents can buy 14 or 21 day passes but I can not. Esp. since Disney is an American company. Their reasoning is that they go on vacation longer than us. My only options if I am staying 14 nights or longer is to buy an annual pass or to buy an extra Magic your Way pass costing me way more than what UK residents pay for the same number of days. As a matter of fact when I looked into their 21 day passes they were not much more than our 10 day pass. I do not know anyone living in the UK otherwise I would do what others have done and had the passes mailed to the UK and back into the US. When you are dealing with credit cards it is a little bit different because every country has their own credit setup and there is no sharing of credit history with other countries. However I agree Disney should offer something to those that can not use the Visa code. However they probably do not do this because they would lose all that interest that they are earning by making you use a Disney Visa to book if you do not pay it off on time. Lets face it they have a brilliant marketing strategy. Many people that would not be going to Disney right away are going sooner because of the so called "deal" they are getting with this offer. I say so called because in the end they most likely will be paying close to if not double for their trip after interest is added. Lets be honest most Americans do not pay off their creditcards each month and it can take most people years to get out of debt on just one creditcard.

I think that it is time that Disney look at the "global" travel industry and realize what effect that they are having on their guests, otherwise I can see what happened after 9/11... no one will be coming "home"..........

This may be a little OT but I was in the Disney Store in Halifax (still annoyed Moncton closed, now have to drive 3.5 hours plus pay to get off PEI to get to the closest store) and the cast member/cashier said that he heard a rumor that Disney was talking to various banks about getting a Canadian Disney Visa card. He said that the problem was actually getting a bank to do the card, as they had tried a few years back as well.

Keep your eyes open I know sometimes in April Disney puts out an offer for the free dining in September and you don't have to have a Disney Visa for that.

I got the code awhile back, but its for DW and i live on the west coast go figuare ..... hopefully i will get one for 2010 cause i'm planning my 1st DW trip then
