Serena, I'm no expert but this happened to me
while posting on the DIS - when I posted it wouldn't
let me use my delete button.
I kept trying and trying!
ETA: Meant to include that my PC kept locking up
and freezing, too.
I finally shut down everything,
first the DIS, then email, then rebooted the PC.
Did you try this yet?
It was very weird, but it was definitely the DIS that night
it happened to me??

I wouldn't expect it to be a normal keyboard malfunction if it actually shuts your computer off. That's very odd. It could be a virus. Or did you spill a drink on your keyboard? I wouldn't expect that to happen, but it could, I suppose.

I agree that the easiest thing to do would be to plug in another keyboard and see if it happens.

Take your keyboard apart and clean it. It doesn't sound like it is in the keyboard, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Last year my keyboard was only typing capitals. I would hit caps lock, and the computer would shut right down.
I would hit f3 and it would go to lower case, but I couldn't use certain letters and no numbers.

I had 5 viruses! They took my computer away for a week, cleaned it up, charged me $250.00, and it was good after that.

Sounds like you have a virus. I tryed different keyboards, it didn't help.

Uh-Oh, I tried to find Serena last night again,
but I don't think she ever came back on, and she's not on now...
I hope everything's ok.

To anyone reading my delusions last night,
for some reason my tired brain decided to not include
the important info re:how I knew it was a glitch on the DIS.

FWIW, one night when I tried to post a reply on the DIS,
if I tried to delete anything in my post my entire keyboard
and PC would lock up.
I did Cltrl+Alt+Dlt, and the DIS didn't respond,
so I told it to end the task, it didn't like it,
I told it to end it again and then it did.
I tried this, without disconnecting my internet,
and without rebooting, 3 or 4 times, with the same result each time,
while also using my delete key succesfully writing a test email.
After several unsuccesful tries on the DIS
(I tried to delete on purpose as a test),
I finally just backed out of everything and rebooted.
I didn't have a problem after that - the DIS reacted normally
and so did my PC since that night.
Now, this was right before they did the most recent switch
to the new server, so who knows?
