Virtual Stateroom Tour

I didn't know that different category 3's looked differently.

The most striking difference is between the standard Cat 3 and the midship, sideways Cat 3 (there are only 4 of these). If you go to the DCL website and look at the different categories, you will see a virtual tour of the sideways cabin and the floorplan of the standard Cat 3.

We found the sideways layout much more spacious (even with only 2 of us in the cabin) and booked connecting sideways midship Cat 3s for our January '09 cruise. We are splurging and putting 3 people in each one! Hope it's not crowded....

Looking forward to my CAT 3 in 2009!!!!!:worship: :cheer2: :cloud9:  :lovestruc

That is so good to know. Right now we travel with two boys who are no longer little and so we are doing category 2's or 1's. But we think the next cruise we will do a category 3 for ourselves and get them a regular room. I will make a mental note to try for a sideways midship room.

bumping, hoping for some more activity ... 6116 anyone? we sail the Magic in 6116 in a month and are super excited.

We LOVED 6116. The location was just perfect. Close to the aft elevators, not far from the drink station. We did not find it noisy at all. We were assigned it on the Wonder our first cruise. Loved it so much we requested it on our second on the Magic. Enjoy!

Two category 1's? Do you mean the Walt and Roy suites? If so, WOW!

ETA: Somehow I didn't read your post correctly the first time. I was under the impression that you booked both suites for the same cruise for the four of you. Sorry.

I didn't type it clearly, my apologies. Our first cruise we did a Catgeory 3 as the boys were 8 and 13 and comfy sleeping on the pull out couch. Then we booked a Category 2 as it had the 2nd bedroom and the boys were 11 and 16. Our next cruise we will either do a Category 1 as my 2 nephews will be traveling with us or we will get a Category 3 for the two of us and put the boys in either a category 3 or a regular room as they will be all old enough to be without us.

I can only afford one Cat 3, not two Cat 1's.

I'm with you there... I'm not rich by any means. We save like the dickens to pay it off before going. Usually only every other year. This year we are going to Disney instead but won't book a cruise for 2 years.

Cruising with DCL is expensive, I have always had a CAT 4, gone for the experience of a CAT 3 in 2009, but wouldn't spend the cash on a CAT1/2.

For us the flights cost us a bomb to/from the USA, and I have limited holiday time, so having two cruises in a year is impossible, so I might as well have extra comfort instead!

We don't have any airfair to deal with. We drive 6 hours to my aunts house and then the 2.5 hours to the ship in the morning. I am hoping our next big trip is to the UK. My oldest son has been to Ireland but none of the rest of us have been anywhere.

We seem to have similar tastes! Champagne tastes on teacher and police officer budget!;) We've cruised twice with our two boys (first time 11 & 13, second time 13 & 14) and have done both a category 1 and a category 2. We really preferred the category 2. We liked the fact that both the boys and we had rooms that had 'real' doors. I was just thinking that if you did the category 2 again with your nephews that you could do the pull down bunks for the extra room and still have the privacy for you and your hubby (the category 1's have a pocket door in between the library and the master suite which have a twist type lock and partially frosted windows - not really complete privacy if someone is sleeping in the murphy bed). To us, the togetherness as well as the privacy is what we want. I know it's not for everyone, be we love hanging out watching movies and eating breakfast together in the suites. We save for 18 months in between for those wonderful weeks!:cloud9:

Cheers to good tastes and empty wallets!!:drinking1
I don't think I realized that the Category 1 had the pocket door thing. I didn't like that too much in the Category 3... one rocky night the doors kept banging open and shut and no matter what we did we could not keep them opened or closed. hahaha I did love the Category 2... I think it is just the wondering of what it would be like to be in a Category 1. It is so exciting. When is your next cruise? hahahaha Maybe we'll end up on one together. We usually go in September or October. Prices are cheaper...hahaha

:drinking1 Right back at ya!

We had the same experience with the pocket doors! :rotfl: We had to move furniture in between them to get them to stop clacking together! No privacy at all then!

We thought by staying in the Category 1 we would feel like Disney's and be treated like them. We really weren't! The concierge team on the Wonder was not as good as the team on the Magic. We loved all the room in the suite, but it wasn't in the best shape. Writing on the couch, missing doors in the entertainment area. And we never, ever saw the Concierge team except when we checked in when we boarded.

With the Category 2 on the Magic, we loved our Concierge team (Jenny and Jonothan). They visited us personally every day, they treated us like family and made sure we had fun and had all our needs taken care of (although I have never made special requests other than sodas and waters. Have you?)

The category 2 layout works well for our family, and we are even considering taking 2 of our oldest boys friends when we cruise next in 2009 (it will be his senior year of high school-wouldn't that be a fun senior present/senior trip?). That 2nd bedroom has the two pull down berths.

We're cruising late in October 2009. The category 1 was available, but we passed to keep the room we like! We love the Eastern! It has a great excursion in St. Thomas that my family can't wait to go on again! pirate: But this time I want the martini tasting with the yummy flavors, not the old fashioned nasty martinis! Wanna come?

I'm still saving and paying every few months on the cost! There's still time for you! Plus I got a great OBC!

Yes, all railings have the plexiglass on the inside. :) It goes floor to ceiling on deck 9.

What do you mean "it goes floor to ceiling on deck 9"?? I know this is an old post - I just stumbled across it... someone else had inquired about the verandas because she has an active little boy and this was the answer given.

Just curious what it means...

Deck 9, with pools, ping pong tables etc, is enclosed with a plexi glass wall.

Does anyone have another picture of the CAT 11 Sideways - I could not view the pictures in post #48. Thanks.

Another request for pictures of a sideways cabin. I cannot view the pictures from post 48 either.

I believe the pictures from the Virtual Stateroom Tour page for post # 48 (sideways Cat 11) have been deleted due to age (it's a 2006 post).

There are some current photos in Post No. 19 on this thread:

We've just booked Stateroom No. 6015 for a fall cruise and it's good to see what 'our' cabin is like! [Please don't tell our friends who think we never cruise below a Cat 3 suite about this! It was a spur-of-the-moment decision and the personal reports of sideways cabins were enticing. (We prefer the sideways Cat 3, too.) The budget for s-o-t-m trips also affected the decision!]
