I've just been online and pre booked my seats and filled in all my info - feels closer to going now!!!:cool1:

Can anyone tell me what constitutes a child's meal on Virgin Atlantic - wondering whether to pre book these for the kids instead of doing the usual and getting what we're given. Our two willeat anything anyway.

Thanks guys :goodvibes

How old are you kids? You say they will eat anything, so they should be ok as there is a choice of three main meals, two meat and one veggie.

Claire ;)

Thanks Clare - you say a choice of three meals - is that the adult or child option?

My kids will be 3 and 5 when we fly

Ta:thumbsup2

That's the adult choice :sunny:
The kids, if I remember rightly, is a set meal but more 'fun' ;)
DD got 'bangers and mash', chocolate buttons and a kids drink as part of one of the meals-can't remember the exact food :)

You don't get a choice of main meal if you order a kids meal but ours have always been fine. The past few times it's been teddy shaped chicken nuggets if I remember correctly with mash & veg & they also got a dairylea dunker a cadbury crunchie dessert, a bag of dried fruit and a chocolate bar/sweets. I'd order one for myself if I could they're much more fun than the adult version :thumbsup2

Recently the adult meals have been chicken and pasta or beef stew or for the veggie option mushroom risotto. The meal also includes a bread roll, salad, pudding (lovely Gu chocolate pot) and biscuits and cheese. Also a little bottle of water and then tea/coffee.

Claire ;)

I get wuite jealous when DD gets her meal, i want to swop lol.

She tends not eat much anyway so i hang around waiting lol.

She had walkers crisps, last time in one of her meals.

Would it be possible to request a meal for my DD1 (sitting on my lap in my seat!) or will I have to take something on board seperately for her?

I hardly think chocolate, crisps and chicken nuggets constitute a suitable diet... so are there any alternatives?

I'd take something with you.
I always did when DD was around that age :sunny:

Chocolate, crisps and chicken nuggets are, IMHO, fine to make an otherwise long, boring, journey for a child more fun.
It's not as though you'll be setting the precedent for the whole holiday :sunny:

I believe that you only get your own meal if you have your own seat (i.e. lap infants don't get a meal).

I agree with you totally (and posted earlier today about a kid across the aisle stuffing themselves with the kids meal and more crisps, chocolate and sweets and later throwing it all back up again... ). Virgin are trying to provide food "popular" with kids.... maybe they should give Jamie Oliver a ring.

The alternative is the adult meal... a much better (and more balanced) choice I think.... if your kids will eat it.

We had a child meal for our youngest on our first Virgin trip back in 2001 - it was chips, beans and something - may have been fish fingers. It was disgusting! My DD refused to eat it - the beans were all dry with a skin on top and the the chips were all soggy, as if the meal had either been over heated or kept warm for a long time.
Since then my DD has always had the adult meal - at least there is an option then :)

We also take plenty of snacks just in case the meals are inedible :)

Unless they have changed (we haven't had the displeasure of experiencing them for a couple of years) the children's meals are, to be frank, disgusting and completely inedible. We take sandwiches and snacks on board instead.

Well, my daughters only one! But she does tend to eat healthy food at home.

I'm not going to be too anal about what she eats on holiday though - she can be picky at times and throw her food on the floor, I don't think it'll kill her to have a little junk food as long as it isn't setting a precident! But I'd prefer to have healthy options wherever possible, and those kids meals, whilst absolutely great for the 5+ age group, wouldn't be suitable for a child so young due to the salt and sugar content!!

MMMMmmmm lots of interesting stuff here - thanks everyone. Going to have to think a bit about this as my two are less than impressed with nuggets and the like - they'll eat it if they have to but not out of choice. Perhaps I'll ask for adult meals - just worried they might be too much food and I don't like wasting food.

The snacks and sarnies idea is good - so may go that route too.

Many thanks

Since children who don't have their own seat (i.e. >2 years old) don't get a meal on the flight at all, it wont be an issue. Take some food that travels well and you know that she will like :)
