Virgin Megastore Replacement

So, the rumor is the entire 1st floor is to be replaced with a display of drsses and gowns worn by Princess Diana.

No disrespect intended to the late Princess, but are you kidding me???

I think it would end up being disrepectful to the princess!! Why would you put something like that at WDW! It should be somewhere like DC or a muesum. I do agree agree with OP....are you kidding me???

Do people REALLY buy cd's and music on their Disney vacation? I've never been in the store. I'm sure Disney is planning to use the dresses as a backdrop and not set it up like a museum.

I thought Apple was taking over that building. I was hoping to buy an ipod there someday;)

Epcot had Abraham Lincoln's hat on display recently. Disney does this kind of thing.

I can understand that though! Was it in the America Pavillion?

Like if they got a few royal artefacts/outfits and made a walkthrough bit in the UK with them I'd totally get it, would be pretty fun in Epcot - just odd in a shopping area....

Yes, I know, but Dianna's death was very tragic and recent. I just dont think it belongs at disney. Just something I would never go and see.....

Yes it was in Epcot. You do bring up a good point about the shopping area, but some of the things Disney does seem weird and end up looking nice.

It does seem like an odd spot though.

As far as possible replacements for the Virgin Megastore I have heard the Apple store rumor, even though it will be a bigger, better Apple store with probably a lot of the same multimedia that Virgin carried, that rumor doesn't really do much for me.I haven't heard anything of that rumor of a store or museum with Princess Diana's dresses, but that one REALLY does nothing for me!!I heard just a few days ago one that could make a little more sense,Landry's restaurants who have the Rainforest Cafe,T-Rex concepts as well as the Yak and Yeti restaurant in Animal Kingdom may be opening one of their Aquarium restaurants in that location.http://www.aquariumrestaurants.com/flash_content/flash_content.html

This rumor I find a bit more believeable with all their involvement with Disney and since I have never seen one of these restaurants it would be something new to me.Something that was once rumored to go to replace Disneyquest when that was rumored to close was an ESPNZone which I thought would be great and probably my number one choice to go in the Virgin Megastore location.

They'll never do it. That would be, at best, a one-time attraction. Can anyone believe that they'd get repeat customers/visitors? Weird rumor...

I may be interested in seeing the dresses, but not at Disney. This wouldn't be a good idea.

I'd love to see Princess Diana's dresses. I was actually in Disney when she died. :(

I have no real interest in seeing the dresses either however I also went to Disney the day we found out she died. (Technically, I guess she died the night before). I just found that interesting because whenever I think of Princess Diana I always remember that we went to Disney that morning.
Sorry...a bit off topic I guess.

I think its probably safe to say this is a short term fill of the space. I live about an hour north of Disney, and the Diana dress exhibit was at our local museum last year for a few months. My wife and mom went and saw it and said it was a nice exhibit, but I agree it doesnt quite fit at DTD. My guess is Disney was looking to fill the space till they figure out what they really want to do with it, and the dress exhibit seemed like a good shorterm fit...

As a Disney shareholder, I have to ask: what possible economic benefit might the company expect from a display of a dresses that would likely draw interest from only a fraction of the visitors to DTD? Will they charge admission? Will they set up a Diana memorabilia store at the exit? Setting aside the questionable taste of such possibilities, I seriously think they could put a 7-11 in that space and make a lot more money.

They should use the space for the world's largest Disney plush outlet store.

Now that I would agree with , not necessarily a whole closet full of dresses from one Royal though but artifacts of several through history that could be interesting... But again not at DTD.

This isn't a good fit for Disney. It seems rather in poor taste. Hopefully this is just a rumor and it won't actually happen.

I dearly loved and respected Princess Diana. I find the idea of her dresses being in a random place at Downtown Disney a little bit odd and bordering on disrespectful to her memory. I'm sure there are MUCH more appropriate places to display gowns that Princess Diana wore. The Smithsonian perhaps...downtown Disney not so much.

makes me sad to think about. :sad1:

Not anymore.

You could have when Virgin was still open. They sold iPods.

I simply don't believe the Princess Diana's dresses rumor. I also heard about the IMAX rumor... but it's more likely that AMC will just convert one of their larger theaters to the "Mini-IMAX" format.

I think a better fit for the space would be an American Girl Store.

We were also in Florida at this time although we did not visit Disney for a couple of days after her death. I do remember in the UK area of Epcot they had some pictures and a small shrine set up for Diana. I can understand an exhibit of her dresses in this area but not anywhere else in WDW.
