Virgin Megastore Replacement

The rumor about the dresses coming here is true but whether or not they are going to be at dtd is another story. I am a former UCF student and got an email about employment opportunities for the exhibit.

"Our Foundation, The People's Princess Charitable Foundation, Inc., will be bringing the magnificent tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, to Central Florida! We are planned to be open 7 days a week, from 11am - 11pm, beginning at the end of June and running through November. "

So there is some truth to the rumor.

well, Diana's gowns are certainly not going to get me to come back to DTD. But Disney isn't looking for me - I'm just one person.

Are they actually going to charge admission for that?

I think a building that takes up that much space in DTD needs to be an attraction for everyone, not just little girls.

see im the opposite. i loved the princess and would adore to see a collection of her dresses. i know ill probably never get to england in my life time to pay tribute so id love to do this. while i agree thath yes it does not fit with the theme of disney, in regards to making $$$ in the uk pavillion they used to sell quite a few pieces that had donations or partial donations going to her charitable foundation. so im sure theres money to be had from this somehow.

Do people REALLY buy cd's and music on their Disney vacation? I've never been in the store. I'm sure Disney is planning to use the dresses as a backdrop and not set it up like a museum.

Wow is it REALLY that surprising to you people would buy music on their Disney vacation? Maybe you're not aware but DD represents a lot of different fun things to do for people. I bet you'd be really shocked to hear people also shop for magic tricks, cigars, magnets, and RNR memorabilia at DD while on their Disney vacations. Some even go to the movies.

Virgin Mega was a great place to load up on music you couldn't find at other places. It was one of the highlights for me whenever I went to DD. Fill the place with Walt Disneys personal artifacts and I'd be interested, but Princess Diana's clothes, I don't think so. :crazy2:

An Apple store would ROCK in that location! :thumbsup2 Even though Orlando has 3 stores there already it would be a perfect spot for them to put a store to reach such an international crowd on Disney property without ANYONE having to rent a car to go off property and get their Macs checked or iPod fixed or purchase new products! It would be like the Boston Store! AMAZING!!:cool1:

Actually, our family DID spend alot of money(porbably most of our spending money) at Virgin Mega Store. And as Bullseye said, you could find CD's that you couldn't find at other stores there at good deals. In fact my DW is more upset that Virgin Mega Store is closed than that Space Moutain will be closed during our next trip.

Instead of just an Apple store, how about a Best Buy?:thumbsup2 You could still get your i-pods, but the rest of us (Zune users here) would be happy too.

This is Downtown Disney, you can't just have some store that's available anywhere you go.There are 5 Best Buys and 2 Apple stores within a 20 minute drive of my house, there would be no reason to go to DTD to see these stores. For me these or a gown museum would take away from DTD,an American Girl store would be OK in a smaller space, but this space would need something big and/or unique for everybody's entertainment. The Landry's Aquarium restaurant or a full size ESPNZone would work, entertainment plus dining, that's what DTD should be.

No way this rumor is true.

Unless they plan on using the Megastore space as a revolving door of showcasing things like this. But that's just odd, and I can't see how this can be a money-maker.

Maybe you could buy some magic tricks to make your rude response disappear.

Give me a break already, I asked a question. I could care less what people buy on their vacation. Personally, I can think of MANY more things to do in Disney than go to the movies (insert rolling eyes here) or buy CD's. Knock yourself out though. THUMBS UP!

I can't wait to see Diana's dresses.

Wow I'm crushed by that clever response :sad1:. I'm not going to get into a P'ing match with you lady. I'll just tell you many people are very dissapointed by the closing of Virgin Mega store as indicated in a number of threads on this site. So you expressing surprise that vacationers would "REALLY" spend time buying music is what was rude. Now you're trying to minimize your initial comment.

Oh and by the way Disney is a movie company, and a media network, and a television group. Having a AMC movie theatre adjacent to a huge Virgin Mega Media outlet is IMO a heckuva lot better way to spend a few hours on vacation than browsing Princess Di's clothes! :bored:

Maybe you should plow through this thread again because you're about the only person who thinks a Princess Diane clothing exhibit at DD is a good idea. Most responders think it's actually a joke!!! But you go ahead, knock yourself out.

Thanks for the morning entertainment. :lmao:

I hope this is just a rumor because a display of dresses and shoes does not remotely interest me. No matter who owned them. This really illuminates (if true) how out of touch Disney is getting. City Walk is a much better themed and relevant entertainment area. To replace a top notch retail entertainment destination with such irrelavent junk is just silly. :rotfl2:

:laughing:I guess some people havem't gotten over the fact that Princess Diana died....A really long time ago...her Ex Hubby sure has, and so has the kids. I WOULD NEVER go and see her dresses, even if they were NEXT DOOR to me! What a weird and strange exhibit to put there, and yes I miss the Virgin Mega store, it was great AND I actually bought CD's from there.:thumbsup2

Never a fan of the Virgin Music store at DTD. Went in once and the noise --er I mean, music--drove me out after a couple of minutes. Tough for any CD music store to compete with the Internet stores these days and it dosen't suprise me that they are apparently closing Virgin stores all across the country.
As for what to take it's place?? A big ESPN restaurant would be nice, maybe a Dave and Busters. A restaurant with some form of "entertainment".

My DW and MiL are both avid American Girl collectors. So are many other adults. Just because you don't have an interest in it doesn't mean that nobody does.

And honestly, just as others here had no use for Virgin, no matter what Disney decides to put there it isn't going to please everyone.

I very much enjoyed spending time -- and money -- at Virgin on my many trips to WDW before I became a CM. So did a whole lot of others.

Personally, I agree with Bullseye: rudeness lies in assuming that your viewpoint is the only valid one.

I also agree with Bullseye on this one. I loved seeing the selection that I didn't have back home and several times bought games and music. I also love the magic shop and the memorabilia shop. I'm definitely going to miss the Virgin Megastore. I really can't believe in this rumour about the dresses and shoes. Incredibly boring to me and DW didn't have any interest either. I can't see how it would work to be honest, but hey, maybe they have some sort of plan for it. I wouldn't mind the mini-imax or an ESPNzone. Something along that line would suit me fine. :goodvibes
