Hi folks haven't been on for awhile, post holiday blues, but now looking into going back in 2008.I thought that I would price up Virgin's new service from Glasgow:scared1: They obviously don't want their glasgow flight to be a success £225 flight supplement!!!! & you can only go out on a Saturday so I thought that I would check out Manchester lo & behold no supplement & I can choose any day. After the last holiday when the return flight was on a plane circa 1945 this is the straw that broke this Scotsman's back & BA will now get my hard earned!:thumbsup2 SD

Thats not quite correct.
VH brochure for 2008
Orlando-Manchester a suppliment of £20 for Fri/Sat/Sun applies at all times
Glasgow-Orlando
departures 4th-12th april a suppliment of £100 per adult,
20th June-5th July a suppliment of £125 per adult
5th July and 3rd to 11th october a suppliment of £70 per adult.

On costs for running a small service from a regional airport, with all staff having to be brought in.

As for the "1945" planes, the Glasgow aircraft are the exact same aircraft in rotation between Gatwick and Manchester, taking one day out of that rotation to service Glasgow.
these are in the majority, the youngest 747's in the Virgin Atlantic fleet, younger than the Heathrow 747's.

Now, as for BA, they don't fly direct, you have to go to gatwick then to orlando
Flight costs for example one adult dep 5th April return 19th april
cost £1,272.70 unless you take a hotel and fly down the night before, then it goes to £985.20

Virgin direct from glasgow
Not available on the VA web site but in the VH brochure Fly drive:
Same dates £369 plus £100 is £469.

But as you say, BA can get £985.20 of your hard earned cash then Virgin getting £469.

Why not look at Flyglobespan or one of the Charters??

Hi Obi where did you get your flight prices? The supplement that I found was on a breakdown on a holiday price on Virgin's site? Now in the past we have quite happily flown out of Manchester(never a pleasure coming back up the road though!) as it almost always is cheaper but on the quote that I got I just thought that was taking the P...!
The 1945 plane was our return last time into manchester,so old 1/2 the seat back sets didn't work,no games & don't get me started on the meals!!
I've looked at Globespan as a holiday but they don't do the hotel we want but obviously I could use for fly drive,1st Choice are only showing for 14 nights & the Unijet site was down.
Thanks SD:thumbsup2

Flight only for next year for GLA was only about £65 difference to LGW or MAN when I looked a week or so ago for a question on another thread.

Claire ;)

Hi SD,
I got the prices from the Virgin Holidays brochure "Premier edition January 2008-December 2008"

Fly drive prices on page 30, suppliment prices on page 265.
The BA flight prices were off their web site

P.S. their Grand Floridian for two weeks per person were amazing! £2,399 and thats only Ecopnomy seats!!!!

I could be wrong but I thought they were doing 2 flights out per week next year friday and saturday. I was told it was because this year was so successful and next year is filling up really quick.

Yes, the book shows:

VS071 Departs 14:05, arrives 17:55 Fridays and saturdays on
04,05, 11,12 April, 20,21, 27,28 June
04,05,July 03,04 Oct

and
VS 071 Departs 14:05 arrives 17:55 on Saturday 12 july and 11th October

(Flight back VS72 departs 20:40, arrives 09:35 next day)

P.S. Another option, Continental from Glasgow to Orlando Via Newark operates daily

Also the price might be higher now as there isn't many seats left on the flights especially the June flights.

You can book on the VA site but as the number of seats left are few and far between it does come up as if there isn't any flights. Only the lowest ticket type of each class are available ie non-flexible tickets as only go on certain dates. I know that there isn't any seats left with VA and Vh for the dates we are traveling.
