EAK!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

Hey everyone, I know I have a thread on this regarding Virgin honouring my baggage allowance but now my situation has changed slighty.

My DH pointed out a good point that I hadn't thought of and now I am worrying :guilty:

We booked before the April baggage allowance was enforced and we have an email from virgin saying that we can still have the full 2 x 32kg baggage allowance.

However about 5 weeks ago we amended the booking, and moved the holiday forward by a week. I am now unsure if this will mean my holiday was booked then and not before april. Any advice anyone? :confused3

I don't know but Im very interested in the answer as I am in the same situation!! I booked in January but then last week I changed the booking from October till December. I have a horrible feeling that it counts as anew booking as I have a new booking reference number.

Am I correct in thinking we are allowed 2 cases each so would be better off splitting stuff up into lots of cases rather than a couple of larger ones which may go over the limit?

That is correct, each person is allowed 2 cases each weighing upto 23kg per case. We are going to do the same and split all our stuff between 2 cases so we dont go over the limit - although i booked before the change so it shouldnt be a problem!

We originally booked our flights with Virgin in August last year to fly to LAX and return from SFO.

I called them 4 weeks before our hols and amended the departure date to 5 days earlier. When we picked up the tickets from the desk at Heathrow it was our original booking date that was on the ticket and they honoured the 32kg per case both ways, but warned me I would have to pay excess baggage in the future as 3 of our cases were over the 23kg.

Hope this sets your mind at rest

That is the theory that I am going by...

We normally have one big case each (weight normally varies between 25kg and 30kg). We need new cases anyway, so I am buying 3 smaller cases between the two of us - to keep the weight below the 23kg per piece.

The thing that WOULD worry me regarding other members of the board, is their shopaholic tendancies (I don't shop a lot, so am not worried). You can be careful about what you pack and weigh things at home before you leave for your airport in the UK. But you need to be extra careful on the way back (since you probably wont have weighing scales in your hotel room to weigh the cases before leaving for your US airport). 23kg is really not much weight... so err on the side of caution and spread it out among more bags...

Boo

We usually take 1 case each but i think we are usually over the limit so it will be 3 cases for us this time.

I have a travel bag that zips up into a really small square that i pop on the top of my case - that way IF my case is over i can quickly open it up and pop a few bits in it!

Although this year we took 1 large case between us and a small case which we put all shoes and toilettries in!

Hi

I had no idea there had been any changes! We haven't had an e-mail or anything from Virgin - did you? We booked in November 05 for our trip this October. Did you have to contact them to get them to confirm you could have the 32KG or will they automatically allow it for anyone who booked before the changes?

Thanks, I would be very grateful for your thoughts on this! :)

They should honour your baggage allowance as you booked before the change. Though I would call them to ensure this is the case or email them.

They anounce the changed on their website, but if you never check that you would be non the wiser!

Just an update for you all, my travel company - Thomas Cook have asked my to print of my emails from Virgin in which they state that I can have the full 32kg x 2 baggage allowance, as ideally Virgin should call them and state this. However as I have done this through emails they have accepted them. They are going to make a note of this on our booking and then 11 months before we fly they, our names will be given to virgin, at this stage TC will contact virgin to reiterate the fact that we have been promised the 32kg x 2 baggage allowance.

Just thought you may find this of interest?

Hi

Have just spoken to someone at Virgin who has confirmed that, as we booked our flights for October this year on 29th November 2005, we are entitled to the 2xbags per person upto 32kg each. he said that the check-in staff would know that this was the case by the dat e we booked but to put my mind at rest he was going to put a note on our 'tickets' so there would absolutely no problem. I have his name and extension number too!

Having said all that, I hope that we won't need anywhere near that amount!

Thanks for your help on this.
