Vip cleaning request due to asthma/allergies

Just to clarify, and I am sorry that this may be taking us down the wrong road, but we don't get clean comforters upon check-in? Isn't this a given when people vacate a room, that newly cleaned comforters get put onto the bed?

Nope. Most resorts do not clean the comforters between guests. That is why many people take the comforters off of the beds and don't use them.

I can see requesting a VIP cleaning if you have someone in your family that has a medical need of it. But to request it in the hopes that you won't catch a bug is silly. You are just as likely to catch something from all of the park surfaces you touch. Please leave the VIP cleanings for those who truly need them.

I'm talking about having the comforters cleaned or at least changed and using disinfectants when they clean the room. I'm not asking for hypoallergenic cleaners, carpet and drape cleaning, etc.
But that's what a VIP cleaning IS. Maybe Disney should change the designation.

A one-time illness when traveling - however severe - is not an indication that any out-of-the-ordinary cleaning EVER needs to be done on ANY hotel visit ANYWHERE on ANY future trip. If you don't want to use the bedspreads, call Housekeeping when you arrive in the room and ask to have them removed immediately and not replaced for the duration of your stay.

While many of us feel the overuse of disinfectants and antibacterial products contributes to the proliferation of illnesses - people are preventing themselves from developing natural antibodies, the way we were designed - go ahead and bring your own and clean whatever you feel needs to be cleaned. But, really, a one-time vacation illness is NOT validation for a VIP cleaning.

I'm going to pipe in here about an email I sent Disney concerning the bedspreads. Disney washes the bedspreads along with everything else on the bed between each guest. If for some reason you check in and find the bedspreads dirty then call Mousekeeping. They are supposed to be washed, and you may have a lazy mousekeeper that just didn't change them.
I sent the email before I knew about VIP cleaning...and I really didn't want a dirty bedspread touching my son's sheets regardless if we throw it off and not use it. Dust mites are the problem for him. Disney assured me the spreads were clean, and also recommended the VIP service for him.
He truly had a magical experience at Disney two weeks ago thanks to this service. This isn't a service for people who are worried about catching a cold! Email Disney's customer service and they will be happy to address your concerns.

We've thought about doing the VIP cleaning but we're kind of wavering between yes and no right now.

I have severe asthma (there are days where laughing to much causes an asthma attack), severe allergies and I am immun-suppresed from methotrexate treatment.

We know that I am severely allergic to whatever detergent they use. I have to bring sheets and towels with us when we travel because I will breakout within an hour of contact with the sheets.
We have been to WDW, 18 times but this is the first trip since I started methotrexate treatment and it has been an extremely bad year for me with my asthma and allergies so we are trying to decide if it is worth it.

What exactly does the VIP cleaning entail, and how do you request it?

Related Question:

Last time we were at WDW my husband became VERY ill. Almost to the point that we couldn't return home on our scheduled departure day. The only reason we did go home is because the hotel had no availability to extend our stay and we would have had to pack everything up anyway to move hotels. I honestly think it was swine flu - my husband has never been that sick, and we had to call a doctor to come to our room because he was too weak to go to the urgent care center. Our two children and I also got sick but, thankfully, only after we got home. I can't be sure but it could have been something in the room that made us all sick - something wasn't cleaned enough or disinfected. I really want to make sure this doesn't happen again, and although you can never guarantee that you won't get sick on vacation, I'm willing to do whatever is in my power to keep it from happening. I'm already packing lots of hand sanitizer and wipes to keep the germs at a minimum. My question is - can I request a VIP cleaning for our room even though we don't have any medical reason for it? We don't have asthma but I think the circulated air, dust and other things that aren't normally cleaned (like the bed comforters) contributed to him getting sick.

Presuming you went out of the room at all before getting sick - its *far* more likely your husband and kids picked up the virus on the many surfaces you touch OUTSIDE the room each day..

Lapbars, ride seats, crowd control fences, ticket machines, FP dispensers, quick service dining tables, trays, monorail hand bars, seats, bus seats, hand rails etc...

Is it possible you got something in your room? Sure. But even a VIP room cleaning can't protect you outside the room. Why do I say its much more likely? Because you would have touched a million more things outside the room vs. inside on a typical day visiting the parks.

While at Disney - it's very very smart to wash your hands multiple times per day and very much try to avoid keeping your hands away from your face, eyes etc.

I know I wasn't the original OP (and thanks OP for letting me "tag along" on your thread!), but just wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful info they have provided.

I do think I am going to call and request a VIP cleaning (we are going on my daughter's Make A Wish trip and will extend to on-property lodging on our own dime afterwards, because this may literally be the trip of her lifetime). I was originally wavering because I thought it was silly to request a cleaning like that when I was taking my immuno-compromised child into WDW throngs during the day (!), but I can see the merits of at least doing what we can for the room in which she'll sleep and spend a decent amount of time during the day (naps, and hanging out -- she has limited endurance due to her chemo treatments).

So thanks!!

Last year we were at AKL and every time we returned to our room, I would have an allergy attack. It didn't happen anywhere else in the parks, not even AK.

I mentioned this to the CM when I made our ressie for this year (less than 2 weeks away!!!) and she mentioned the special cleaning.

After reading this post, I'm hesitant to request it if it's not needed. So, I thought we'd check-in and see if I react again and if I did, then place the request. Has anyone does this?

Thanks!

I just wanted to say I hope you have the most wonderful and magical trip ever. I saw her pics and read her story on your caring bridge site. You are an amazingly strong family. You and your family are in my prayers for an safe and healthy trip!

I think we are getting a VIP cleaning next month. I was talking to the CM about DS's bad allergies. She said that she would request a special cleaning of our room. I was so thankful! :flower3: We, like many others with allergies/asthma, use special cleaners, soaps, ect. I thanked her over and over. It will be nice to have that "safe spot" and to sleep well!:wizard:

we were with friends last trip and their little one got a rash, one of the house keepers though it may be the detergent on the sheets so they just got her sheets that were washed in household detergent, We were told that they can request that next time and they didn't need to make a VIP clean request for that just make a note for the detergent allergy

I just wanted to say, your situation is the REASON Disney offers this service. Don't feel like you shouldn't... if it will help your daughter to have the environment cleaned this way, then do so.

Enjoy your trip... and may it be magical.

I called today about it but I didn't realize that it's everyday that they do this all day cleaning. I just figured they would clean the sheets and use hypoallergenic stuff in the room. :confused3

Sorry...I was wrong about that. It's not everyday, only before you check-in.

I hope you don't mind if I tag along on your post and ask a follow-up question: I assume that requesting VIP cleaning might mean that your room would not be ready until much later in the day?

I am thinking of requesting this not so much because myself and my middle daughter have asthma (ours is only moderate), but mostly because my youngest is on active chemotherapy treatment for leukemia, and is immuno-compromised (a simple fever will buy her a trip to the hospital, so we have to be very careful of germs). So am pondering making this request. Any info would be most appreciated!

And yes, disneyfamoffive, we are making another request. (Haven't contacted them re VIP cleaning yet -- still pondering whether we need to).

I just read your story from your signature. God is good! Have a great vacation and whatever you have to do to keep your precious gift safe - do it!! Be Blessed!:lovestruc

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. We're getting excited! (and I am calling Disney today to request special cleaning -- was at the hospital with my youngest all day yesterday and didn't get to it).

And can I just say that I am just as excited about the fact that I just leaned how to do a multiple quote!!! Woo Hoo!!!
