Villefranche Excursions

We have a 16 yr old and a 5 yr old and then 2 older kids on our next cruise with us and are planning on just taking the 10 min walk to the train station from the tender port (IF we tender by the sounds of it, its iffy most of the times in Villefranche) and then going to monaco and seeing the aquarium etc there. My son LOVES racing so we will see the grand prix route (wished we were going in May so he could attend it but no go). Just taking it easy that day since our youngest will be with us.

Monaco and Eze on your own is quite easy. My word of advice is to look up train and bus schedules beforehand and have that information available to you in case you need it (do this for any excursions you do on your own, just so you have it). We took the train to Monte Carlo, which is very easy to do on your own. In the afternoon, we took a bus from Monte Carlo to Eze, also easy. We got tripped up because the bus back to Villefranche port didn't run as often as would be convenient. We were in no danger of missing the ship (departure was at midnight) but were going to be late for dinner, which we didn't want to miss for unrelated reasons.

Anyway, since I had the bus schedules, I found a different bus to Villefranche that didn't go to the port, but was close enough that we could walk to the port. It was a fantastic adventure.

I spent a fair amount of time with google prior to that trip. I didn't need all that info, but it came in handy in Eze.

Villefranche (and Cannes) aren't usually too bad to tender. In the whole season last summer there was only one time (the last cruise of the Med season) that the Magic didn't make it.

and I'm assuming, from the two most recent trip reports on here, that it was the same cruise time frame we are taking this coming september (last cruise before the TA). Just seemed on another cruise site that its common so have a backup. I'm really hoping we do as that is literally the only place my teen son is really excited about since it is close to the grand prix circuit in monaco. Already researched Marseilles the other port thats used and its just too far in my opinion even by train (2 hrs each way) to go to monaco. Thanks for making me feel better though!!!

We did this a couple years ago and went to St. Paul de Vence. We were on a 12 night cruise and the next few days were heavy touring days (Rome, Pompeii, Pisa), so this was a great half day tour. We loved it. My kids were 10 and 13 at the time. We went on the tour and even had some pool time in the afternoon, it was really the perfect day!

I'm not going until 2018, but I've been looking at the Panoramic Drive and Monaco Rock excursion. It's the only one I can find that actually tours the inside of the palace (even looking through other vendors). I think my DD who will be 11 then, would like to see the inside of the palace. She won't care about cars or casinos.
