Although it is possible to walk up along Formosa Gardens to a few shops and restarants, it is a long (and in the summer, very hot) walk. I think there is a pavement/sidewalk along most of the road, but when we were there a few weeks ago there were very few people who did this walk. I was hoping that the shops would be close enough for my parents to walk to as they didn't have a car of their own. When we got there it was clear that it was much too far for a comfortable stroll, so we went everywhere by car.

The Formosa Gardens area is our favourite location for a villa. Very quick to get to Disney (especially Animal Kingdom), easy access to the I4 and to a range of shops and restaurants, but far enough away from the excessively 'neon-lit' areas of I-Drive and the 192. All the villas that we saw in this area seemed new and spacious.

Formosa Gardens and Indian Creek are opposite one another and are the closest developments to WDW. Formosa Gardens is more upscale than Indian Creek and, IMHO, still the 'premier' development despite all the new sub-divisions springing up.

They are within walking distance of the Formosa Gardens Shopping Center (and as Rob says, there is a pavement), and a friend of mine has done it, but it's not a walk I would want to make.

We are staying at Indian Creek next August - we have driven around IC and Formosa Gardens also.
I would agree , they are not really walking distance from the shops but they are ideally situated for good access to all the theme parks and restaurants, supermarkets etc - by car of course!

I cannot really comment on searching for a 5 bedroomed home because we have never needed one so big, certainly FG and possibly Rolling Hills (which is close by also) are probably good bets for a larger villa.

Although we have driven round several developments since we started renting villas I cannot remember any around the 192 area that really are walking distance from the shops/restaurants, there may be some but I am not familiar with them.

There are very few, if any, developments that are within walking distance of shops etc, the 'corner shop' experience simply does not exist with even the smallest shops being the size of Sainsburys!

The upside is that every shop has parking directly outside the door and it's FREE which means that a quick supply stop en-route from the parks to the villa is easy and quick.

Formosa Gardens is indeed the closest development to Disney and you will find that the prices here are higher. Indian Creek is newer and just across the road. For easy access to Disney and the 192 all the developments in the Splendid China area are fantastic places to stay. These include Rolling Hills, Oak Island Harbour/Cove and Sunset Lakes, IMHO the best division in the world (that's why we bought there :teeth: )

Also consider emerald island which has a lot of larger villas. We stayed in a 6 bed but there were lots of 4, 5 6, 7, bedders available. It is near Formosa, and a lovely gated complex with clubhouse, with gym, internet access communal pool and concerige services.

Hi

We stayed at Indian Creek a few weeks ago and found it to be an excellent location for all local amenities and parks - we left a busy EPCOT car park one night after Illuminations and were back in our villa within 17 minutes.

As the previous posters have said it is a little far to walk to the nearest shops and restaurants(from our villa to the 192 intersection was 2.1 miles which we clocked out of interest one day) but Formosa Gardens is definitely the closest set of communities for the main attractions at Disney and close to many shops and restaurants along the 192.
