Just wondering if they allow children and if so what the age restriction is...thanks

They allow children age 10 and up.

Children younger than 10 may not dine there.

(And the children 10 or older should be well-behaved and not have any cell phone or tablet or video games with them!)

Oh I wasn't asking because I needed instructed on how a child should behave , we have no children and wanted a truly adults only experience.

I know there are kids at character meals and even enjoy some of their reactions to the characters, I did not want to pay V&A prices and encounter a family type dining experience.

why would it bother other diners if a 10 yr old was playing a video game quietly? as long as the kid is quiet and well behave, who cares? know what i mean?

It is poor manners for anyone regardless of age to be on the phone, tablet, etc. at the dinner table. I realize that it is almost impossible to go out these days without seeing & usually having to hear others on the phone while you dine, but it is not appropriate. Children and adults should have the good manners to visit and give their attention to the actual people that they are dining with at the table. Due to being on call 24/7, I occasionally have to take a call during a meal. I excuse myself and take the call away from the table to avoid disturbing others. I find that adults are usually more likely to interrupt pleasant meals for other diners than young children. No one eating out wants to hear other diners personal business. A ten year old should be able to sit through a meal and visit with his/her family without a game. If they are incapable of that, they are not old enough to be dining in adult settings such as V&A.

:thumbsup2. I wish more people understood this.

Because it is bad manners. It is not at all appropriate for a resteraunt.

If you have been to Victoria & Albert's you know that the main dining room is small, generally very quiet, and the acoustics are such that noise can carry. Playing a video game even quietly in there is likely going to mean it is heard at other tables. If someone insists on bringing an older child who will be playing a video game for most if not all of dinner, at least bring headphones.

It is bad manners, especially for a restaurant like Victoria and Albert's where guests are expected to show superior manners. Victoria and Albert's is not your regular restaurant. If a child can't live his or her life without a phone for two hours, then maybe parents shouldn't take that child to a restaurant like V&A. It is rude to other guests, and there's a reason why younger children are not allowed to dine in this restaurant.

1) Bad manners at the table.
2) Adults and kids shout know better.

Also - the main dining room has low lighting (more romantic/personal I guess). I believe someone on a cell or playing a video game would be distracting, because of the brighter light.

I'm not sure about the Queen Victoria dining room. I know it's very well lit for the Chef's table.

DH and I have eaten there several times. We absolutely :love::love: it. I think the youngest diner we ever saw there was 21! It's not your average restaurant.

Same here. We try to dine there every trip and I don't think I've ever seen anyone who wasn't old enough to get the wine pairings.

I would hate to pay for V&As and just have my kid playing a video game... it is expensive due to the atmosphere as well as the food, and shows that the child has absolutely no appreciation or enjoyment of a meal that many cannot afford.

Normally I'd agree, if you're eating at a place like Denny's or Chilis, something that is kind of a family place and a child might be unruly. I've been known to pop out Netflix on the phone so my son can watch Thomas while we finish eating and he's already done. I don't do it often, but I've done it a few times. When he's older and better able to sit still and occupy himself, though... That's what he'll be expected to do.

But at a place that's fine dining, like V&A, it calls for proper table manners for the whole party. That's why the dining age restriction to begin with. Adult atmosphere, proper manners.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 It amazes me the number of adults who will sit and mess with their phones all thru dinner. I admit to being guilty of this a few times myself, but it's still impolite and I should know better.

Seriously, who would bring their child to a restaurant, pay $125 for the child's meal and have the child sit there and pay video games.

I am planning a Disney World trip for the week of DD's 21st birthday next year, and thought we'd go to Victoria and Alberts on her birthday. We could get the wine pairings. :goodvibes
