Via Napoli with peanut allergy

DD has a peanut allergy. It's always nice how the chefs at the restaurants come to the table to tell us what food she can eat. I was surprised at our last visit that they told us that the pizza was not peanut safe. I can't remember if it was the sauce or the pepperoni (strange) but I didin't investigate further since she wanted spaghetti anyway. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm asking because she said this trip she would like to try the cheese pizza if it was safe.

I dont know the answer to your question but I am going to do my homework and email special diets to ask as I have a nut allergic ds and we have an ADR for via Napoli! I will let you know what I learn.

Likey it is the dough. It is NOT that the ingredients contain peanuts per say, it is that they are not made by Disney. Therefore DIsney can't SAY WITH 100% CERTAINTY that there was no cross-contamination. That's the key phrase: risk of cross-contamination.

I can't speak about VN pe rsay, but our family has seen this policy regarding bread and chocolate property wide and food allergies. The same policy is true for almost every chocolate products proprty wide. Maybe they have changed, but a few years ago, as one example, we were told we were not allowed to eat the hot dog rolls at CAsey's. (we did anyhow and it was fine!)

I can't tell you what to do in this regard, but we usually don't disclose the food allergy any more when we go.

Our family has been going to WDW for many years and the allergic family member has eaten bread and chocolate all over WDW with no problem.

what are your family member's food allergies?
my peanut/tree nut allergic son can eat the rolls and has eaten pizza safely (i.e. pizza planet) but i'm wondering if it's something different at VN... i emailed specialdiets, hopefully i will hear back :)

:scared1:
We've eaten at Via Napoli and had the pizza with my DD14 who has a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. We were told it was fine and she ate the pizza. Fortunately, she was ok with it. I'm just surprised at the inconsistent answer about it being safe. Unless they changed the distributor since then? (Last January).

Sorry, I tried to edit and they did not go through. argh! this is one of the few posts that's actually important!

Some of this is about liability.

One place we alsways do talk about our allergy is at buffets. At the menu places foods that expressly contian common allergens - like peanuts will say they contain peanuts.

At the buffets, especially buffets that serve slightly unusual dishes- like Boma- we always have the chef go down the line with us. The very AMericna buffets, like Chef Mickey's are much easier. If you have a very low threshold- and you wish - they will even bring you food that has not been 'on the line'. (on the buffet, someone might stick the spoon in the wrong dish, say.)

I thikn knowing your threshold is anothr important point. that's not the level of potential reaction you get - it's the ammount of exposure that causes you to havea reaction. Different folks have different threshold amounts. Some folks I know have very low thresholds.

Also, with food allergies, it's always wise to be prepared. Make sure to carry somethign like benedry, inhalers, and/or an epi pen at all times! As long as we have bendryl, we are usually pretty safe.

Last, it probably metters quite a bit that we've been to WDw a number of times. If it's our fitst time dining there, you may want to take that extra level of precaution.

I have a small peanut allergy and I have eaten at vn.. I dont remember getting sick afterwards. All i had was the pepperoni pizza.

I will tell you to stay away from the desserts there. There are nuts in everything!

Yes, we couldn't have dessert and it's so annoying as desserts looked SO good (I hate having an allergy) :sad1:

My DS has a peanut allergie and had pizza at VN in August. They never told us of any possible issue with the pizza and he was fine.
