VHS to DVD

I'm sure this question is out there, but the new search confuses me and I can never seem to find what I'm looking for so...

What ways can we transfer videos from VHS to DVD? Is there a way you can do it on your computer? Or do you need a DVD recorder?

There are many VHS to DVD recorder devices being sold for home use. The computer option is possible, but not every computer is set up to accept the video from the VHS tape.

I have about 20 6-hour tapes that I need to transfer to DVD. They're all my music videos from the 80s I had started a few years ago, taking some 2-hour tapes to a service, but that cost $20 for every 2 hours. I finally invested in a nice Sony VCR/DVD recorder combo from Target - on sale, I paid about $225 total. I just need to buy the recordable DVDs now.

I know you can buy a DVD recorder separately as well, and hook it up to your VCR. I just don't know about using the computer.
