VGT rates on the Treasure for the fall

In case anybody is wondering the sofa beds are really easy to fold up and down yourself. Just push it up and pull it down. Only the ones from the ceiling need the special tool.

Wonderful for those who want it but not a great sign for how DCL is doing

Sure, but also most of these guarantee rates are still really expensive. It's like DCL doesn't yet want to admit that they're overpriced, so they're keeping base prices the same or even higher while increasingly offering GTY cabins. I think this strategy has some limits, because there are only so many people who can book last-minute GTY cabins, and these people are typically all Floridians or from other nearby states. There's only so much demand even with lower GTY prices. I think DCL would do better to continue to build their customer pipeline and that ultimately might mean lower across-the-board pricing, at least until there's a change in their micro-econ situation (i.e. until their total market catches up with all their new supply).

I think you hit the nail on the head! DCL never thought that they would need to be releasing discounts on thier newest ship so soon? They can't back track on pricing because that would be admitting thier greed got too high. Discounts verses lower prices from the get go can help them save face somewhat.

It just seems to me that their prices are too high
They are too high. I haven't sailed with DCL since 2011, but I am hoping to hop on the Fantasy next year for a shorter cruise. And the fare is ridiculous. But unfortunately I can't go with a last minute rate as my husband does not need to be in a cabin at the front of the ship. If it was just me and my daughter, it would be the last minute fares. Which I think will become even more common in the future. I think Disney counted thier chickens before they hatched with all these new ships.

We’re sailing several cruises on the fantasy next year. We are paying around $3500 for a verandah cabin for 5 nights. Doesn’t seem that bad. You can get cheaper fares on the dream - probably because people don’t want to sail out of Fort Lauderdale.

Is a discounted fare for the Treasure of like $1300-$1400 normal or is that a bit more than expected?

What is wrong with Fort Lauderdale? I wonder if you can fly into there cheaper than Port Canaveral? I would have no desire whatsoever to sail the Destiny. But I am open to the Fantasy and Dream.

It depends on the original price. The GT discounts are usually between 20-30% from the current lowest price cabin in that category. Lately they have had a higher percentage.

What is a good price for two people on a five night cruise?
What is considered good price for DCL is a lot higher than what you pay on another cruise line. I suppose 3500 for a 5 night cruise is considered Okay by Disney standards. If you are out shopping cruises you'll see it's a lot more than the competition. It really comes down to if you think it's worth it or not. I don't know if you've cruised before, but worth does get easier to determine after a few cruises.

We drive down from Atlanta. We don’t want to drive further than Port Canaveral. People must not want to sail out of FL, or just don’t like the Dream, because cruise fares for the Dream always seem cheaper than the Fantasy. For the almost the same sailings.

With what we have paid to sail the Treasure, it doesn’t seem high to us.
That’s like saying the 100 dollar bottle of wine is cheap because we paid 200 for the last bottle. It still doesn’t make the 100 dollar bottle cheap.

Everyone has to decide what cruise fare they can afford. The Fantasy prices seem reasonable, and it is a great ship that we actually enjoy sailing on. I do not think the prices for the Treasure are worth the product DCL is providing.

The theme Parks are in Orlando which is a draw for families. We rented a car in FLL and drove to universal. It was an easy drive a little over 3 hours. FLL is a lot easier to cruise out of than MCO. If they offered 7 night cruises they would sell. Other cruise lines do well sailing out of Miami and FLL. I don’t understand Disneys strategy with short sailings out of FLL. Most people aren’t going to fly across the country unless it’s 7 nights.

The Dream is doing a few 7 night sailings in 2027 out of FL. We have toyed with the idea of booking one - since we prefer longer cruises and don’t love the Treasure. Every time I look at them, there are tons of cabins available. Not sure how well they are selling.

The shorter cruisers make Disney the most money, right? So i think that is why they have really steered in that direction. The Dream and Fantasy, (even though I have yet to sail the Fantasy) are my favorites of the ships so far. I love the theme of the Wish, but not sure if I would sail her. The Destiny, it would have to be free.

I think we might just do a 4-night on the Fantasy and incorporate a day of Disney at like Carribean Beach Resort beforehand. Just stopping at the two private islands and one day at sea. Around $3200 for three people in the thick of hurricane season. And that in itself could be a major gamble. 😬
