Vespa Scooters?

My husband is debating getting one of these for his 3 mile trip to work every day. We are looking into it now, but the new ones are about $3500 and the used ones are really hard to come by.

Anybody have one? How do you like it? Is it worth $3500? Would you buy new or used?

I've actually thought about buying one also, since my trip to work is only about 10 miles. They also look really, really cute and I'm sure it'd be a lot cheaper on gas than my car (which is almost paid off really).

For a 3 mile trip, has he considered a bicycle? My commute (weather permitting) is about 2 miles and takes me 8-10 minutes on a bike. Not enough to qualify as exercise, but it is a good wake up!
