I just heard that there could be devastation at Vero beach and Sebastian area. So very worried about the cast members and their homes. We have stayed there so many times and have become close to many cast members. Please hope for the best for all of them and keep them in your thoughts.

Amen!

We were planning our first trip there early next month but had to cancel. Hoping to reschedule for December - so I'm going to be checking the boards constantly over the weekend as damage reports come in. Prayers for the CM!

We live in Sebastian and know a lot of people that work at the resort. All we can do is pray now. We had just moved here after it was damaged by a hurricane in 2004 and it didn't reopen for a few months or something. I remember sitting in the restaurant and someone telling us the rooms had just reopened. It's sad to think about what could happen.

Have you evacuated?

Have you evacuated?

No. We are not on the island. We have impact windows and doors, plus shutters, and a new roof. There really aren't many places to go. It sounds terrible outside. I wonder if they shutter the windows at the resort. I think the biggest problem back in 2004 was water pouring in from the roof area.

Good morning. I hope your home's protection held.

Any news on how Vero did? We fly down to Florida tomorrow and were informed that Vero would be closed until Monday so we got in to AK for the weekend and are just hanging out at the parks. I have seen that the winds never reached the levels that were feared but I haven't been able to find any information on how the town and resort fared.

How are you this morning. We love the Sebastian area and hope all is well there this morning. Still not sure if there is any damage at the Disney resort in Vero.

**Update on Vero Beach**
I've spoken to several friends living in this area. They truly "dodged the bullet" & the area faired extremely well. This sounds like "magical news" for our sister resort!

Praying the same holds true for us here in HHI...I will continue to keep you posted. Please stay safe!

I hope DHHIR avoids the worst of it too.

I just googled "Vero Beach hurricane" and found local news reports and photos. As lvdis says above, looks like they dodged the bullet. So I hope VB will be up and running Monday as planned and that we can visit in December!

floridafam, hope y'all came through unscathed as well!

That is good news for Vero! Such lovely people. Thoughts our with wherever it's heading next.

We are okay but without power. They opened the bridges this morning but we have not been over on the island. The food on the fridge is starting to get warm so we are hoping for power soon. If we get over by the resort, I'll post.

Are you talking about Hilton Head or Vero? Where are you? I assume you mean Vero, but I don't know what bridges you are talking about. HHI is getting hit right now, so I'm thinking you are talking about Vero.
I'm curious since we got evacuated from HHI and are so worried about the island.

I'm talking about Vero. Sorry.
That's fine. I assumed you were. It's just some posters were referring to HHI earlier. I've been to Vero before. I had just forgotten that you have to cross a bridge to get onto the long island that the resort sits on. Sorry for the confusion. Glad you are safe!

My aunt & uncle live in Vero (inland), and also didn't evacuate. They are still without power so I haven't been able to communicate much with them, other than to know they're safe. It sounds like their house is equipped similar to yours. My question is, why didn't you evacuate? I have no experience with hurricanes personally, and I am genuinely curious. If I ask my uncle this, I think he'll get defensive! You did say "there aren't many places to go" but what about in this situation getting a hotel room on the gulf side?
Thanks for any insight you can give an uninformed Northerner! :)

We are former Northeners. We moved down here back in 2004 between two really bad hurricanes and lived at WDW for a week each time.

We didn't evacuate because we have pretty much fortified our home and my husband was on call. During evacuations, traffic jams are a constant and it often takes hours to move just a little. I did want to deal with that. We live inland and were not under mandatory evacuation orders. We definitely would have evacuated if we lived on the island.

You just never know with these storms. Our next door neighbor did nothing to prepare and her house is just fine.

Most of our friends have power which is really surprising.
