About a week ago I recvd an email from a news reporter with the Orlando sentinel.. He said that he was doing a report on the rising costs of disney and saw some posts that I had with tips on cost savings... He left me his 800# and asked me to call him as he just wanted to talk to me... Well I really kinda blew it off until a few days ago and thought.. what do I have to lose? So I called it yesterday just to check out the # and make sure it was legit and it was the Orlando Sentinel!!

I called today and asked for his ext and had to leave a message and told him that if he was still interested in talking to me to email me to let me know and I will try to reach him again tomorrow..

When I got home I had another email and he said he would like to talk to me!!

How weird is that?? He must have seen some posts on this site, as this is the main one that I talk about disney on..... I wonder if he will mention Dis in his column??

I'm waiting on the go ahead from my full time job's communication office and my part-time job (TDS) to contact him.

Hey, that's cool! Let us know what happens! :)

Hi aimeesmom2,
Just a word to the wise......
I am a member of the media, and I advise you to just be careful what you say and how you word things. I know plenty of reporters who will make a story what they want it to be. Your quotes could be used out of context.
I do NOT condone such practices, but I know first-hand that they happen.
I am very interested in how it goes, though.
Keep us informed.

I did it!!

I called him today and he just asked basic questions....

He said that he was doing an article on the rising costs in the orlando area in the last 5 years and as disneyworld is part of that he just inquired on how many times I had been to disney, when I went, how long I stayed, how much did I budget for our trip last year and how much I budgeted for our upcoming trip.. He also asked questions about how we were able to save, such as did we save all year for the trips or was it last minute decisions.. asked why we chose disney world and why I chose the particular resorts versus staying off property, also asked questions about how we save money while at disney.. etc..

He said that the column will be out either late this week or possibly early next week.. He said it will be available on their website. www.orlandosentinel.com

I will keep an eye out for it!!

I hope nothing gets quoted out of context.. Still thought it was cool!! I hope he mentions this site as this was where he saw the posts.. I thought it was very interesting that the media lurks on this site....

I got the same email. I wrote him back telling him when and where to contact me. He said that he'd get back, as he had another story come up. Just the other day he called. It was about 2 weeks between his original email and when he actually called me. He claimed to get my address through one of these boards. Same questions were asked. Not much to build controversy out of.

I'm relatively sure that Disney marketing will be reading the article closely too.

Hi,
I've been hanging out on the Universal Studios/IOA boards and a person was interviewed there as well. The reporter from the Orlando Sentinal also found her on that board. Her interview had to do with her upcoming stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel. Her article came out a couple of weeks ago and she was pleased with the results!
