Very relieved...

20 out of 23 DCL cruises we have done were in January or February. Nothing is better than leaving 10 degree weather in New England and arriving to 70 degrees in MCO.

We are in Western MA and it is below 0 this morning so right there with you! We are getting away for a quick 3 night on the Dream in Feb. and can't wait.

If you're on the Fantasy heading south it's fine. Even if it's 40 degrees in MCO when you leave. The Dream cruises can be problematic. When you are out at sea with the wind blowing it can be colder than you think. I've never done a Bahamas cruise in the Winter I don't think I would. The Caribbean in Feb is fantastic though.

...that I cancelled my January 28th Dream cruise. Florida is having one of its coldest weekends in decades. Castaway Cay has a high of 60 degrees today ("feels like 56") and a high of 64 tomorrow ("feels like 62"). I cruise in winter to get away from the cold, so it would have been a total bummer to have cruised in that kind of weather, with cool wind blowing over the ship, and not being able to really enjoy the pools and the beaches. :cold:
Well guess lucky they have the cancel for any reason now.
But just wanted to say, in my area Wisconsin high school and college kids run around in shorts in 20° weather. I’ll start wearing capris when it’s upper 40’s and shorts myself in the upper 50’s. But I get your not accustomed to that cold. 72° and I’m in Daisy dukes in a tube top(you don’t want to see that promise!)

On one of our Jan cruises when we left home(Ohio) it was -9. When we arrived in Florida it was in the mid 50s. Our driver to the hotel had on a heavy coat, hat, and gloves. As soon as we got in our hotel room we put on t-shirts and shorts. My dd even went swimming in the hotel's pool. 😆 🤣

When your from the north you have these times where you walk upto a pool and say “gosh wonder why nobody uses the pool here” and start looking for problems. For example: gators, large snakes, something/someone floating in the pool, a chalk outline, you know “Florida man” stuff that floods the media.

Haha my BIL works at a hotel here and can tell who are northerners based off of their willingness to get in a pool in winter

Sorority girls & young kids always wear shorts no matter the weather here, too. In fact, people from more northern areas often comment here that our cold days feel colder than theirs because we get a "wet cold" here that you really feel in your bones. A colleague of mine from Russia just mentioned that last week.

Regardless, cool air temps & swimming/swimsuit lounging aren't a good mix imo. The whole point of a tropical vacation is to relax and be warm, not to get bragging rights about being able to tolerate the most cold.

you never know though-we have taken about 7 cruises so far-i remember one in early march and it was freezing-my boys were 4 and 6 and in the pool constantly. Of course the cold didn't bother them at all! My poor husband, I made him go in the pool with them and his teeth were chattering and I was on a lounge chair wrapped in winter clothes and towels. so you really never know.

Disney pools are heated like a bathtub. It’s just getting out that’s painful.

I can't imagine cruising when it is cold. That is why we don't do the Alaska cruises. I know that it is beautiful up there, but we hate being cold.

Fun thread ! :sunny: We take January February cruises to get away from average daily highs below zero. CC can be warm or cold but never blistering hot which we do not enjoy. We have always been able to swim and snorkel, sometimes when only a few people are in the water. Sure we have seen people with coats, hats and gloves, didn't feel the need because we were acclimated to our harsh winter and didn't seem to notice it being cold. We also sit outside at the brewpub by the lake when getting together after a long workweek, there are usually fire pits in the coves. Capture.PNG Makes sense if you are leaving 40 degree weather for a getaway you don't want to go to 50 degree weather. When you leave minus15 or 20 and get to 60, its an enjoyable 80 degree swing. I hope everyone enjoys whatever getaway they get, there is always something that makes it special.

Florida is typically much warmer in winter than Texas. If you ever want to sail in winter again, I recommend you sail out of Miami. In winter it's significantly warmer there than even in Port Canaveral, and much warmer than Galveston.
Actually, right now it is 62 degrees in Galveston and 59 in Miami and 56 at disney world. Cold snaps happen every Jan-Feb in Florida and every year there are posts on disboards expressing disbelief.

That is only due to the very extreme weather event that is hitting the east coast, though. Typically, Miami can be counted on to remain very warm throughout winter, and Galveston's temps are regularly uneven in winter: sometimes cold, sometimes cool, sometimes warm.

A quick google search says Miami gets down into the 40s almost every year in Jan-Feb. yes it has average temps in the 70s in winter, but an average takes account of aome very high temps and some very low. I agree this cold front is unusually bad, but south florida does always get some cold days each year.

It’s like how if you always sail in Sept-Oct you may get lucky and never get plans disrupted by a hurricane, because hurricanes only lasy a few days each year. But you xan be pretty confident these days that there will be a hurricane at some point each year or almost every year.
