http://www.golynx.com LYNX - Orlando's Public Transportation System

I filled out a form on their website yesterday, asking how one would get to Universal from Walt Disney World on the LYNX busses.

Well folks, how does LESS THAN $2.50 per person/roundtrip sound? This looks to be a great and very inexpensive alternative to Mears shuttles, rental cars or taxis.

Here is the very pleasant response I recieved just a few minutes ago.

Welcome to Orlando! I hope you'll have a great time. And yes, Lynx can get you from Disney to Universal. Lynx buses are safe, comfortable and VERY inexpensive (unlike just about anything else in vacationland here). The trip is a little complicated, but I'll detail below everything you need to know to get there:

1. Take Disney's free transportation service from your hotel to the Disney Ticket & Transportation Center (TTC).

2. At the TTC, board Lynx's route #50 (at :05 and :35 past each hour). Deposit $1.10 for each fare in exact monies (bills and/or coins) and ask for "transfers". You'll have a 15 - 20 minute trip to Seaworld.

3. Get off the #50 at Seaworld and wait for link (route) #8. As you board #8, give the transfers and tell the driver that you'll transfer again at Wet 'N Wild. The driver will punch and return your transfer to you. You'll have about a 15 -minute ride from Seaworld up to Wet 'N Wild.

4. At Wet 'N Wild, get off #8 somewhere around International Dr./Universal Blvd. and walk to the Lynx bus stop ON Universal Blvd. next to the Wet 'N Wild parking lot. Transfer there to . . . .

5. Link #21 which will zip you up into U-Stu's main entrance in less than 5 minutes. As you board, just give your transfer to the driver.

Watch your time on the return trip because the last #50 from SEAWORLD back to TTC is at 9:39 PM (Mon. - Sat.).

Also, check our web site under the fares/routes/maps icon and scroll to the links mentioned above to view days and times. Wishing you a safe and pleasant journey, I am.

I know this option isn't for everyone. I was just hoping this would help out some. :D

Rhonda-

Great tip. I just want to point out that while waiting for that transfer bus it might take up to half an hour. So it could in theory take 2 1/2 hours each way to get back and forth via Lynx. That makes for a long day. I can't imagine spending a day at Universal or IOA and then spending another 2+ hours to get back to the TTC. Ugh!

I think if it was me I would use Lynx for Sea World (that's a great deal!) but not all the way to Universal, too much valuable vacation time and too many chances for error in transfers if you don't know the area. Just MHO.

Any ideas if this is still correct? As of yet i have still to recieve a reply from lynx?

We are using LYNX to get form the airport to PC. It does not sound complicated at all and only involves one LYNX transfer!

Isn't airport to Disney via Lynx very circuitous? Namely UP to downtown Orlando and then BACK DOWN to Disney? On top of slow running on city streets.

If there was a routing that was always heading in the general direction of Disney it wouldn't be that bad.

no the first post is no longer correct I know the fare is wrong and I think the routes and loctions of bus stops are wrong however I would have to look to be sure on the bus stops. another option is to take the link 50 to the downtown bus station it will pull into lane 1 bay d then transfer to the 21 there in will be in lane 4 bay Q (right next to the Railroad tracks) that bus will take you to universal.

as for coming from the aiport to downtown orlando yes they do take city streets but they also take 436 and that road does move. most of the time when I come back from the airport in a bus I take city streets as the 408 east west expressway is always gridlocked for toll plaza's. another option from the Airport is the link 42 it starts at the airport then goes down to the premire factory outlets and stops there where you could get a taxi to your resort pretty cheap.

also pay attention for more route changes once the NEW Lynx central station opens and the Downtown bus station closes this fall.

Two comments on Lynx.

First, they are wheelchair accessible. (with a discount for wheelchair users).

Second, it's a pain to get to TTC from most Disney Resort Hotels. If you are staying on the MK Monorail loop, Wilderness Lodge or Campsite fine. No other resort has direct transport to TTC. Two years back I used Lynx when staying at the Boardwalk. I had to take the Disney Bus to Magic Kingdom then the monorail back to TTC. With waiting for the MK bus at Boardwalk, then the walk to MK monorail station and another wait, it took me best part of an hour to get the Lynx bus stop. Allow for the same coming back and that's two hours out of your day.

I know there are alternative ways of getting to TTC, but they all take about the same time.

yes they are handicap accesible, however unlike disney the wheelchair lift or ramp is at the front door of the bus, with a ecv it is very hard to manuver around the farebox through the front door. also 96% of the busses are lift equiped and 4% are ramp equiped.

Found out today that the new LYNX central station is set to open 11-14-04 so after that almost all routes will be affected and also pay attention for some route and stop location changes, possibly affecting the routes that go into disney. I don't know much more then that at this point.

ok correct info at this time to get to unversal from disney is take the LYNX 50 to seaworld make sure to request a transfer when paying. then board the link 43 going to the universal employment office, request a transfer as giving the driver the old transfer. ask the driver if he goes to the main parking lot for universal. ( i think that is a point where they change routes) if not transfer to the link 40 that will go to the main parking area of universal.
