Very early pregnancy and rides?

My DH and I are "starting" the process of having a family. We have a trip planned in June. If something would happen right away on the baby front (not getting my hopes up, but you never know with these things) I would only be one to two months pregnant when we go.

I am the type of person who needs to be mentally prepared if I can't go on the rides. Childish, I know. I am especially worried because we are taking family this trip who have never been (my inlaws and 7 year old niece) so they will want to experience all the big attractions.

Would most of the rides be safe for someone that is only a few weeks along? I know there are warnings, but I would think someone who is 7 months along compared to someone who is one month along would have different restrictions. I really don't want to ask my doctor, because it is a huge what if question, and sounds pretty silly (but I will definitely be calling if I would find out before we go).

What have past experiences been with this type of thing? BTW, this would be our first child. Thanks.

Some rides would be ok to do, but I would err on the side of caution here. When in doubt, don't ride it. Warnings are there for a reason. Just my .02----- BTW, hope all works out for you. Kids are priceless. I have 3 boys ages 5, 3 and 2 months old.

Keep in mind that most miscarriages happen in the first 12 weeks. For that reason, I tend to be a bit more cautious during that period. We went just after New Years and I was about 3 months along with #2 (took us a year to conceive so I was really concerned about losing her). Anything that was bumpy, jerky, spinning, or fast I skipped (so all the major roller coasters, water rides, safari ride, tea cups, test track, mission space). I did the Indy cars but had my dad in front and husband and son behind to prevent anyone from ramming into my brother and I. Theres a drop in Pirates, but I managed to sort of lift up when it came to lessen the blow. When big boys wanted to ride something that my son and I couldnt (hes only 3), we either found something tame, or took a break in the shade. It can get pretty warm in June so be prepared to take frequent breaks in the ac or shade. Wear a hat and sunscreen (avoid the mask of pregnancy which is caused by the sun-darkens your face like mask). Drink lots and lots of water, know where the bathrooms are at all times. Keep in mind also that morning sickness may be an issue for you for the first 12 weeks or longer. Smells, food, movements, etc may be overwhelming to you (carry a few bags in case you get sick). Id say go for it, just be cautious. If youre not sure, you can always have your husband ride something and come back with a report. Also, ask a cast member if it would be too risky. Sometimes its hard to see the warnings on the signs!

Hi - any rides with centrifigul (sp?)forces are out no matter where you are in your pregnancy which means roller coasters, Mission Space, Test Track, ToT, you get the idea. The good news is that there is still lots that you could do. I had a great time while pregnant at Disney so don't feel like you'll be missing out on tons. By the way, I did the safari at AK when 18 weeks pregnant and was fine but discuss with your doctor what you should and shouldn't do. Good luck and have a great trip!

Here is just a little thought....how about you guys start trying AT Disney World? That way, you can ride all the rides, and you won't even find out if you are PG until you get home!

DH and I are considering trying for our second (and LAST!) on our trip next year.

I was just under 3 months pregnant when I went to Disney for the first time in 1992 (before some of the "thrill" rides). The only ride I had problems with was Body Wars (simulator at Epcot). It was HORRIBLE!!
The main thing I would make sure of is that you keep hydrated!! June is VERY hot and humid! And make sure you have some snacky things with you because I tended to get hungry often.

Most women don't find out they are pg until they are 6 weeks so I'm thinking your baby would be fine. If you KNOW that you are pg I would still go on some rides just not anything that is jerky. Last May I went to WDW 35 weeks pg and had a great time. I avoided (for obvious reasons) all of the roller coasters. I did go on Pirates, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White....and did a TON of shows like Little Mermaid,Philharmagic(sp?),Tough to be a Bug. My point is even if you are pg you can have a blast at WDW!! Good luck!!

The only other thing you might want to take into consideration before getting pregnant before your trip, is morning sickness. Since this is your first, I would guess you have no idea if you'll get it or not. Some of us lucky moms get it bad (like me). And I can't imagine being in WDW during my 1st trimester. When we were pg with my first son, we went on a trip to Key West a week after we found out we were expecting. So I was 5 weeks along for the trip. Of course since it was my first pregnancy, I had no idea if I'd get sick or what. Well, the morning sickness (actually ALL DAY sickness) hit me during our trip, and really put a damper on things. I couldn't eat a lot so we had to skip many of our dining plans. I was SO exhausted at the end of each day, that we had to skip our nighttime plans. And I just felt generally awful all the time...I just wanted to sleep and stay near a bathroom... It was funny, the PLAN was to try to GET pregnant while we were there...LOL But anyway, I just thought I'd mention this to you. Regardless of the morning sickness thing, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing the big rides if there was even a CHANCE I was pregnant. But that's just me. I think the previous posters suggestion to try while you're down there is a great one!

I would not go on any rides that jolt you about, any rollercoasters, KMJ at AK. Better safe than sorry. Dont forget if you get morning sickness you may not want to go on any rides even the most gentle ones.

I don't advise this, but when we went two years ago my wife (unbeknownst to us) was a few weeks pregnant. (We had been trying for a couple of months, but she was confident we'd been unsuccessful.) She went on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. When she got back and went to the OB and found out she was pregnant, he said it shouldn't be a problem. And it hasn't been. Though I have a ready made excuse for explaining my son's behavior over the teenage years. Again, I'm not advising it, but I don't think you should worry yourself silly over it either.

I vote with cbs on this one..

I was 7 months pg with my second child when we visited once with my oldest DD. I rode everything EXCEPT the really big rides - no coasters, Mission Space, Splash, TOT. We laughed that the Safari ride at AK was much less bumpy than our very long dirt driveway (we live in rural GA!) I am a BIG rider but I really missed it much less than I thought.

I ride horses and my OB told me I could ride until I was big enough to be uncomfortable. I didn't - but only because I was worried about falling off the horse entirely, not the riding.

My advice - just use common sense and have a good time. If you are worried something may harm your baby then don't do it. Stay hydrated, take breaks in air conditioned shows, etc.

While I appreciate your advice, I am a big girl and know that nothing takes the place of a doctors opinion!

However, in this situation, I am not pregnant yet. I would never bother my very busy OB-GYN with something trivial like this if there is no reason. If I would become pregnant before the trip, then I will definitely make the call. However, I simply soliciting what others have experienced with themselves and their own doctors advice to know what I "may" be in store for.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I really don't think it will happen right away, but we selfishly are trying for a winter or spring baby so we are just getting into that time frame now. I am hoping to bring home a souvenir from the trip, but that may not be possible depending on the timing.

Please find at ahead of time before you go if you think you are pregnant. I didn't know I was pregnant and went to an amusement park. I rode everything and after I got off a big coaster I was in alot of pain and didnt understand why. After going to the restroom and noticing a lot of blood, we rushed to the emergency room. I had lost the baby due to the rides that I had went on. Please do find out before you go on anything though I'm sure it will be just fine. I wanted to share my story of how sometimes things don't go well. Have fun with the babymaking.

I went 8 weeks pregnant. At that point my Dr. said I could do anything I felt up to. (the baby was so small and protected at that point.)

I did Dinosuar, the safari ride and Misson Space. I didn't do the others just because I didn't feel like it at the time and someone had to sit out with the older kid anyway. I did Dinosaur and MS with my 12 year old niece because she wanted to ride with me.

The baby is fine now.

It really depends on how you feel.

However being at WDW newly pregnant my advice is to wait to start trying until you get there (or right before.) I wish I would have. It would of made our trip better.

My sister in law has been trying for years, they just took the step to "try harder" with Dr. help. She thinks she might be pregnant now ,but is really sick. Going on this cruise in 3 weeks is going to be mesrible pregant.

Wait if you can. What is one month.
