ok - i'm hoping that no one was hurt in the Iceland Volcano eruption this morning i'm very disappointed that my aunt's flight was cancelled.

It was a surprise for my fathers 80th birthday on Saturday.

we have plans to go to the CN Tower and although the entire thing was supposed to be a surprise we did tell my dad that she was coming because he hasn't been well lately and we didn't want the surprise to turn into a heart attack.

but he doesn't know we're going for dinner or having cake and wine Sunday.

she's booked on a flight out here tomorrow but the news just said flights may be grounded until Sunday or Monday.

no i would never want flights to take off when they shouldn't but it's so disappointing after all this planning that she may not actually be here.

her flight was cancelled for my brothers wedding after 911 and she arrived the day before and delayed for my wedding in 2004

seems like something happens for our special occasions

again - i hope no one was killed by the volcano just disappointed

aww, how disappointing ... but hopefully flights will resume soon and your Aunt can still make it to the party in time ... otherwise, maybe you can save her a piece of cake and some wine and she and your dad can celebrate when she does arrive :goodvibes ...

Happy Birthday to your Dad :goodvibes ...

That is disappointing...who would have thought that a volcano in Iceland would case so much trouble?

Oh, that is disappointing. :flower3: Let's hope that she can get there soon.

Happy Birthday to Dad!

it continues.

the flight she had booked for tomorrow was cancelled an hour ago.

they are saying it may be Sunday or Monday before flights are cleared to leave.

on the interesting side.

seeing all the video of the volcano is fascinating. so incredible to see molten lava flowing beside snow and ice

Of course no one wants anyone hurt, but I'd feel very disappointed too. At least they are being cautious.

Can your aunt fly when they determine it is safe, or does she have a schedule to keep? I hope it is the former so your party is just delayed.

I'd be disapointed too :( My SIL is supposed to leave on Sunday for Germany, but who knows whether that will go ahead now.

no we can't change the party - too many others have work schedules. Aunt is retired and will still come but the party has to take place without her :(

what makes it sad is that their oldest brother died during WWII so it's just them. She lives in England and tries to get out every year mostly at christmas and just left 3 months ago so this was a surprise when she told us to make plans to include her.

we were keeping it a surprise but with my dad's health i told my mum so that if needed she could warn him so he wouldn't be too shocked.

Auntie decided to tell him last week and he was so happy she was coming.

his actual birthday isn't until tuesday so if she misses this party and the cake/wine on sunday hopefully she can still make it for tuesday and go for dinner with mum and dad

hope it starts raining soon over there to bring down the ash faster

ironically - you can still fly into iceland where it started from.

UPDATE

Well DAunt has cancelled her trip all together. She can't get a flight until Tuesday earliest and that's still up in the air because the ash is very slow moving and they don't know what'll hapen.

even if she did get a flight on tuesday she'll still have missed everything :(

she's shattered (she likes that term) and just wants to put all the travelling behind her.

apparently she got an email saying her flight was cancelled but didn't say why - she got it while she was on her way to the airport and thought she couldget another flight. then they told her they were flying out of london she she headed there (2 hours away) only to find out they too were closed and she had to head back home.

she's exhausted

on the plus side - when she got home from the airport she found out her pipes sprung a leak and has caused a flood - good thing her flight was cancelled or she could have returned home to a flooded house :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
