Very Disappointed with All Star Sports

I too think "slum" is way too harsh.

In my opinion a week in a WDW resort--any WDW resort--is much better than a week most anywhere else. DH and I have traveled frequently and always come back to WDW. Why? Because no matter how much or little we spend we have a great experience. We have had budget trips at values, lavish trips at Deluxes and now are DVC owners. All different experience but all great for different reasons. That is truly the beauty of Disney.

I agree with the OP. Our stays are usually for 1 or 2 nights as we live close by. The Value's are just not a good sleep for us...uncomfortable small beds, the loudest toilets on earth, and thin walls. The themes are fine...we just never sleep well at them. I also don't think there's that much difference in the pools (except DD like the slides) or the food court between the levels of resorts.

Of course I'd love to stay at Deluxes all the time...can't afford it.

We pretty much stay at the Moderates now...for me it's worth the price difference to get a good nights sleep.

I have to admit that DH really didn't like ASMo. He commented on the "sort" of people who stay there. Which is hilarious because we are not snooty nor rich (or we would not have been there to begin with)!

Sometimes we had to share buses with the other All Stars and that was not cool (epecially being the LASt stop). But we didn't spend all that much time in the room, so I was fine saving money on the room--it meant I had more to spend in Downtown Disney. :cool1:

Anyway, next time we plan to stay at a moderate or rent a studio from a DVC member (or maybe even a 1 bedroom, dare I dream). You do get what you pay for...but even a "bad" room at Disney is better than being anywhere else on any given day.

I have only stayed at a Value once & it was in Sports.

I only did it because I was trying to save money & spent half the vacation there & the other half at the Poly.

I was single at the time so the bus didn't bother me that much since I didn't have to fold up a stroller or worry about a diaper bag & such.

But with kids I couldn't imagine staying there because we take breaks mid-day & we mainly do the MK & Epcot so for us we break the bank & stay at the Poly (which is why I can't afford to go every year).

I like the bottom floor room at the Poly so we can sit out side while the kids nap & do laundry with out worrying about opening the main door. I keep the slider cracked so I can hear when they wake up.

To each his own-that's why there is such a variety of themes and price ranges for the resorts. I have stayed at all levels. Our last trip we stayed at ASMu to see how cheap we could go. I had stayed there 13 years ago when I took my sister for a high school graduation gift. We liked it, but we spent zero time in the room. I was secretly hoping that I would love it again and we could always stay value to save the cash. We hated it. It was filthy. We tried 2 different rooms, and they were both gross. The walls were paper thin, and I had to take back all the jokes I made about the turbo toilets. I never believed it was real, but those were some loud toilets!

We moved to AKL, and we were thrilled.

Lesson learned for my family...moderate or deluxe only, and maybe DVC too (we are saving up to buy it in cash).

Just because I don't like the values doesn't mean that they are evil-someone else may love them and that is fine.

Different is what makes the world go round! :cheer2:

Last August we stayed at All Star Sports in the football section second floor nearest the bus stop. It was great. Room was clean, bed (king) was really, really comfy. It was handicapped accessible by request as I have difficulty getting into showers. The toilet was not loud and the rooms around us seemed quiet.

This trip, two weeks ago, DH wanted a resort with more dining options so we went for AKL and loved that as well.

I really don't care where I stay as long as it is at Disney!!!!

Be happy -- life is full of choices!!!

Babs

I think that it is nice that there are accomodations for evey budget, style and taste at WDW. We chose to stay in a Deluxe because we are traveling with a little one, and I want to have amenities if we need to spend a lot of time at the resort. I know that when she gets older I may choose to spend less on lodging and more on traveling to WDW. I remember when we took the kids the first time, there was only the Poly and the CR. Very expensive for my family, and no other choice except to stay offsite. We saved and saved for that trip! I think that that having choices is better.

My DH, Me, DD, DS and DS go every year to disney and we can only go every year if we stay in the "slums".

Disney every year at the "slums"? or only every few years elsewhere? I'll stay at the "slums"

I love the "slums" too. I have stayed in All Star Movies and Sports and found them both to be nice resorts. We never had any problems. I found the bus service to be far superior to the mods...especially POR buses which to me was a nightmare!! I guess if you keep an open mind and go to have fun you will enjoy the value resorts. After all the money you save by staying there is well worth it to me!! :cheer2:

I have tried so hard not to post a reply here. But I'm sorry, "the sort of people that stay there"?!! We go to WDW twice a year. My husband own his own business, he makes an excellent living, and we could afford to stay at the Deluxe. We did for years until we stayed one time at a value and found that for the little time we spend in our room, and with 2 little ones, it was the way to go. We have stayed at the Pop the last 5 times and love it. I actually found the bus service to be better than the moderate or deluxe resorts we stayed in!
I think if you aren't happy staying in the values, then definately stay where you are. Thats why there are so many resorts to choose from. But to call it "the slums" and refer the "the sort of people who stay there" is just hurtful and rude!!

We stayed at POP and loved it. The room was a little tight with the pack-n-play but it was a good expereince. DD loved the pools.

On the flip side I had a horrible expereince at CSR....there were actually dead roaches and discarded meds under the bed and it took 3 calls to get the room cleaned. I had wished that we saved the $$ and stayed at Alll-stars.

I have to say best expereince was AKL...wow

Now we own DVC so the decision on where to stay is easier.

Wow I can't believe so many people have had horrible experiences at the Value Resorts. I have only been to Disney 3 times...my first trip to All Star Sports.....not one complaint!! The room was clean...certainly large enough for myself, DH and DD. Never waited for more than 5 minutes for a bus either at the resort or at the park. Were the first hotel to be picked up (usually full) and dropped off. I have also stayed at OKW and Saratoga....thought actually that the Saratoga Studio was smaller than the room at All Star Sports. I would not even try to compare a 2 bedroom at OKW to a hotel room at All Star. Nor would I try to compare the price. I am sorry for everyone that had a bad time....or was inconvenienced....maybe it was just bad luck??? Hope you have better luck at your next resort!! :sunny:

LMAO More with the 'sort' of people posts. Will it ever end? I won't go into further detail about the 'sort' of people that make the 'sort' of people posts. because the threads usually get locked down soon after. Carry on...
The 'Trash Man', The 'sort' that stays at Values.

sweet...another new line for my signature.

Another fan of the "slums"! I guess we are the "sort" of people who stay there. Actually, considering some of the snobbish-sounding posts I've read (not only on this thread but others as well), I'll take that as a compliment!!!!!

We did a split stay this past week at a value and a deluxe. I loved All Star Movies and will never waste my money on a deluxe resort again. Don't get me wrong, the Contemporary was very nice and very plush and the view of MK was gorgeous. But, we got the same basic amenities and service at ASMo - and that's really all we need. Our room was quieter (we were in the Buzz building), and our transportation lines were also shorter. The longest we had to wait for a bus was 10 minutes, and that's because we got there just as the previous bus was leaving. We waited 45 minutes for a bus to downtown disney at the Contemporary resort - then it took an additional 30 minutes to make all the stops and get there. In that 45 minutes, we saw only one Animal Kingdom bus and no MGM busses. And this was at 8:30 in the morning, when people normally try to get to the parks for opening. The gift shops had the same merchandise. It was basically the same CS food (although ASMo even had more options in this area). We didn't make it to a pool (how do you people have time to do this? we never could make it fit in our schedule) so I can't comment on that.

Oh, and I was travelling with a pre-schooler. That whole thing about staying in a deluxe to be close to a park was nonsense. It was just as easy to get on the bus to ASMo as it was to get on the monorail to CR. But then again, I don't do laundry on vacation, and my child hasn't had a nap since she turned 18 months old.

I had originally planned to stay at the Poly next trip, but after a brief visit there this time to check it out, we decided to go back to the movies!

We are returning guests that have stayed at All Star Sports 2 times and All Star Movie once. We just returned from our latest stay one week ago. We have never had any trouble with anything while we were there. I think that you have to see what your needs are and what your preferences are before you stay at a Value. For us we would rather save the money and spend it on other things during our stay as we are just in the room to sleep and shower. I guess it doesn't hurt being sports fans either.
One day we wanted to go from MK to Typhoon Lagoon and went to the Boardwalk to catch the bus. It was here that we waited 60 min for the bus to arrive.

We're the biggest sports fans around but we don't stay at values anymore. It's a lot of things. The sheer amount of guests makes the values seem crowded when they're not. Everything is a wait - from the food court to check-in to the bus. The rooms are way too small. The level of service is questionable. And there is nothing to do besides swim. We are people who spend 70% of a Disney vacation at the resort. The values do nothing for us.

Dh and I refer to the values as "the slums"
Whenever we go down, we try as hard as we can to stay ANYWHERE else onsite. They really are our last resort.

yikes

I am definitely not a fan of the All Star Sports. Whenever we go, we try to "rent" points from a DVC member and stay at Boardwalk or OKW. We are taking a quick trip this December and were lucky enough to use a promo where we are staying at POR for only $90 more than we would have spent at AsMo.

I have never stayed there, but a close friend went a few months ago and she def. complained about how DIRTY the rooms were and how loud everything was. From the way she talked it i dont think SLUMS are a bad way to describe it. NOW with that being sad... it doesnt get that bad of reviews on tripadvisor.com. A few folks complain and the lack of housekeeping, but seems alot of folks like it. .

I have heard of a lot of complaints about the All-Stars. I stayed at Movies and we had fun and we weren't in the room that much so the small size did not bother us. What did bother us were the really long bus rides and the long walks to places to eat. The pool was really cool I thought and the theming was really neat. My best experience at Disney was when we stayed at Dixie Landings. We got the full Disney experience and only left property to eat big lunches off site. The pool was awesome, the bus rides were short, the maids put all the stuffed animals in neat positions-overall magical. But I rated the offsite experience higher over the value resort experience. We drove in everyday and drove off site to eat at good places like Unos, and Chilis and my personal favorite Jungle Jims. The pool we had at the offsite resort was wonderful and empty in the middle of the day. It was much quieter and nicer than the value resorts, plus we got a free fridge and microwave. The downside was we did lose a little bit of that Disney immersion. So if you want the cheap rates but the nice rooms-try staying offsite and see how you like that.
