Very Disappointed with All Star Sports

True, but you have a kitchen. When we're at BWV we only have to walk to the fridge, not all the way to the food court. Obviously this requires some planning as you either have to stop by a store or order in some groceries so I admit there are definite trade offs. :goodvibes
Don't worry! We won't be selling our BWV points anytime soon ;). We do stock our fridge at the DVC resorts, but I love having a refillable mug. I also really love regular Value/Moderate resort food courts and being able to grab Mickey Waffles in the morning and a buger at night. I guess I could really plan in advance and bring my Mickey Waffle maker :thumbsup2.

Thank goodness Disney has so many choices :D For my DBF and I, values are the way to go. We're in our late 20's, no children and we sleep and show in the room. I perfer having the extra money for nice meals or fun stuff at the parks. I've stayed at all three All-Stars and Pop and haven't had a bad experience at any of them. I heard my neighbors more when I stayed at OKW and POR than at any of the values. Guess it really comes down to personal preference.

Me, too! First time DH and I stayed on-site, we stayed at All-Star Movies and loved it (buses were fantastic, CM's fantastic, did not hear our neighbors at all the whole 9 days). Next time, we stayed at Polynesian - obviously gorgeous, monorail so convenient. However, I have to say we found the CMs at ASM much more pleasant than at Polynesian, so you never know :confused3

I don't think you can in any way compare the values, mods, and resorts, so I don't understand why it seems people expect the same things?? :confused3 They are completely different prices. It's not a $10-15 difference. We go to Disney for 9-10 days at a time. For our upcoming trip, we were trying to decide between WL and POP. For a 9-day vacation, though, the difference is over $1300. I'd rather stay at a value and take an entire second vacation during the year  Having stayed at value and deluxe (no mods yet), was the deluxe $200 BETTER a night than the value? Not for us...

It is great that Disney has options for everyone!

(However, the smoking room thing would really be terrible no matter where you stayed...As a NS in that situation before, I feel your pain with that issue!! ;) )

I think that one of the non-smoking room issues (in all the resorts) is that there are people who will actually smoke inside their non-smoking room and stink it up for the next people. That smell is terribly hard to take out.

Our home base is the ASMo after staying in the other 2 values as they were built. We've been back just to look around but they're too tiny now that we're used to the Movies. Our kids love it and we always get a room in the Mighty Duck section closest to the ASMu. Except for some over zealous mousekeeping at 7am (which we quickly end with the Do Not Disturb sign) we've not had any issues. For 2 weeks every summer we get a pool basically to ourselves after 9am, extra towels and pillows upon request, and maybe a bus wait of 10 minutes once and awhile. Our worst bus experiences were at the Poly, so I know the values don't have the lock on service issues. :thumbsup2 I'm happy it's not for everybody; but it sure works for us. :cool1: And all that money we're saving means we get to do what we want for the 2 weeks.

My favorite budget resort is the movies. I no longer will stay at music or sports. Not enough "disney" theming for my taste. I have no problem though with what Disney perceives to be "budget" pricing.

I've stayed in some very INTERESTING Days Inns in my time and the all star resorts are IMHO--nothing like the hotels on the interstate. (of course I will only stay in hotels with interior corridors that cost about as much as all star if not more).

As someone who has only stayed at the Values once (AllStar Sports) and only for 2 nights I still feel the need to defend them. Background on our group, first trip with kiddos years ago at the CBR, then Dixie Landings, then we made the mistake of staying an extra night at the CR. We were done. Only deluxes after that. SInce we have purchased DVC and enjoy the 1 and 2 bedroom villas witht hat said, the values are just that a great value. If you are going to commando tour and only sleep in your room then they are great!!! And I must say during peak periods there have been many times I ahve stood in my deluxe bus line at the parks and saw 5 value buses load and leave, so the transportation can't be that bad. Try paying $300 and up a night and then sharing a bus with three other deluxe resorts.

As far as the smoking room. It sounds like you were there during free dining and since many seem to book the cheapest accomodations to acquire this package thats probably all they had available. You can get a smoking room at a deluxe too even if you request non.

The term "slum" may be taken as slightly offensive.

I think that might be how some hackles got raised, for sure. Slum is definitely not a nice word.

Definition: A slum is a district of a city or town which is usually inhabited by the very poor or socially disadvantaged. Slums can be found in most large cities around the world.

Slums are usually characterized by urban blight and by high rates of poverty and unemployment. They tend to be breeding centers for many social problems such as crime, drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, high rates of mental illness and suicide, and despair.

I understand how some people might find the word "slum" offensive - and in my own defense, I did not use that word (or any variation) in my pp on this thread - but in defense of others I don't think others were using it in its literal sense...but that is why I try not to use words like that because too many people take things too seriously here IMO. I do not think anyone posting here could be discribed by the above definition of "poor or socially disadvantaged" I mean, even if we're at a value resort, we're at Disneyworld so how disadvantaged can we really be?

Even though All Stars wasn't for me, I am very thankful they have something for everyone and that some people do enjoy staying there. Several times during our trip I was thinking ... if this was my very first trip to WDW I don't think I would want to come back so I am glad reading this thread that so many people do enjoy the values. More power to you!! really. Part of me thinks... if everyone wanted to stay where we love to stay then that would just make booking my vacation a little bit harder wouldn't it? So I am grateful that there is something different for everyone and just about every budget and preference.

I think what resorts you prefer has a lot to do with how you like to vacation. That is why we bought into DVC because we know we love to vacation with a certain amount of "creature comforts" at our disposal and we are blessed to be able to afford it. We did Movies this last trip becuase it was a budget trip ... we tried and realized we didn't like it & won't be doing that again. So more room for you all that do like it, right? :cloud9:

Hotels are a very personal choice and it is hard to get opinions from people you don't know. What is great to one person is a "slum" to another. Disney World truly offers something for everyone and the hotels are no exception. If you are on a budget and don't plan to spend a great deal of time in your hotel room, the value resorts are great. As opposed to staying off-site, you have much more convenient bus service. They may have a wait for the bus but, they drop you off much closer to the gates than off-site buses do. We have stayed at the values and did not feel they were slums but we do prefer greater amenities so, we prefer the moderates. Our next trip, we will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge for a change.

We must have been there the same time as you this past week 9-6 - 9-23!

The place overall wasn't too bad but the rooms were dirty & the big main pool smelled like sewer backup!!!!

We went to the other pool several times because of the smell!!!

Thought the lines in the food court were terrible! Extremely long - took forever to get anything to eat!

We wont be back - probably going to POR

Oh man, I just booked AS Sports. I've only stayed in a moderate resort, this will be my first value. I think I'm going to change it.

That's why all the doors are double locked.

:lmao: Oh my this brought back memories of our first (and probably last) visit to ASMovies (without DH/girls only trip) this past August.

We used those locks let me tell you! One night at 2:00a, someone was trying to get into our room! :scared1:

I was scared to death. I was banging on the door saying go away! They tried several times and then I guess finally realized they were trying to get into the wrong room.

The other thing was people hanging outside their room, smoking (I was in a non-smoking section). That was not very nice to see and a little scary to have to walk by them at night.

I've never been nervous or scared at a Disney resort before. That was the first time and it wasn't because DH wasn't there, we've taken a total of 3 trips without DH. It was the overall atmosphere.

First let me say that I am sorry for your bad experience. That's no fun to have your hotel be a disappointment. I do have to say though that All Star's are my favorties. :thumbsup2 I have never had any problems or disappointments with them.

I guess it's my luck but whatever resort I am at always has the longest bus line. LOL :confused3

I have stayed at a few of the moderates and I thought they were o.k. The only problem we ever had was Port Orleans loosing our luggage...twice in the same night :sad2: But once we got our luggage everything else went fine. I felt like the bus ride took forever at Caribbean Beach but what are you gonna do?

I guess expensive our cheap you can have a bad experience anywhere.

We HATED the Grand Floridian, and will never stay there again. I would much rather go to the All Stars. Here's just a short recap why.... The hotel staff walked into our room unannounced 3 times on us in a 1 hour period. I found urine and hair on our bathroom floor (not ours), had to call twice to have it cleaned. We were asked to leave so they could clean it. We left for two hours and returned to the room only to find a message on our machine that they couldn't clean it up because the key to our room wouldn't work. WHAT!?!?! They had just walked in on us THREE times!!! :sad2: Also, unless you want to go to the MK the transportation is not as accommodating as you may think for the money you pay. Thanks for letting me vent!! :goodvibes

I guess it just really depends on the person...

We have stayed at Boardwalk Villa's and AllStar Sports..two "ends" of the price range spectrum.

While the BWV's WERE nice, we also loved Sports! There are four of us, and yes it is small but this did NOT bother us.

We sleep with a white noise fan (even at home) so with that, we did not hear a sound in any other rooms.

Service was great, mousekeeping wonderful..great room in touchdown section (didn't pay for preferred).

In fact, to save $$ we will always stay at a value. If I want to spend more, I'll go to a Deluxe.

Friday we'll be at MOVIES!! :mickeyjum

Here is my 2 cents: Keep in mind that if you stay off-property your transportation time to WDW, time it takes to park your car (plus the cost of parking), time it takes to get on shuttle from parking lot to park entrance is going to take FAR longer than on property transportation could ever take.

As far as the value resorts go we really love Pop Century. You do get what you pay for but I think that what you get for $70 a night at a value resort is quite worth it in comparison to the off-property hotel/motels. And that $70 a night cost includes the extra magic hours for resort guests which IMHO is priceless!! :thumbsup2

The moderates are a step above but not all that much bigger, especially if you are spending a lot of "down" time in your room. The plus to moderates is the free mini-fridge.

Sorry that your value resort experience wasn't good - thanks for sharing your opinion.

My mother stayed in the music (maybe movies, honestly, I forget) last year. She was thoroughly disappointed - and they will never stay at another one of them again. The main reason for staying there is they had such a large party (uncle, his daughter, sister, her son, brother, his girlfriend, nephew) and it was the only way they could go....

My mother is on oxygen and is always in her wheelchair when out. One of the extremely rude people staying in the same resort said to her one night "Must be nice to have that thing, you never have to stand." Ummmm...... My mother was a very active person prior to getting emphyzema, and she would stand just like the rest of the people if she could. I actually think it kills her NOT to be able to walk all over, have the aching feet, AND stand after a long day.

Of course she would rather be able to stand! However ... I think the person was just trying to be friendly. Many times people say rude things when they are trying to be friendly and joke with the person. The joke falls flat and they don't mean it to be rude. I guess that person could have just looked right through your mother like she didn't exist because she was in a wheelchair. Would that have been better?

What that person said to your mother was very insensitive. To be honest though, there are rude people EVERYWHERE and this person's rudeness had nothing to do with the resort! (I've encountered some very rude people at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia....rudeness has no economic boundries :sad2: )

Hopefully you don't discount the Values because of one incident....they really are nice places to stay!
