On each of my last two trips (one which just ended Saturday), my family had an ADR at Chef Mickey's. In 2009 we had dinner ADRs and were very disappointed in the quality of the mea. It is a very expensive character meal, as you know, and the food was really counter service quality.

But, we love seeing Mickey and friends so we thought we'd book an ADR for breakfast. Bad move. The food was worse than the dinner food. I did enjoy the waffles and my son liked the pancakes. But, the rest of the food was really terrible. We all walked out of there thinking the same thing. We were at Crystal Palace earlier in the week for breakfast and the food was fantastic...and it was cheaper!

So, sadly, we won't be dining there ever again. Time to find a new character meal with Mickey (or stand in line to meet him).

Was this just a bad luck thing or have others found the restaurant to be way overpriced for worse than counter service quality food?

we thought breakfast there was OK...variety not as good as other breakfast buffets, but food wasn't bad.

Agree the Crystal Palace breakfast was way better.

How about Tusker House breakfast at Animal Kingdom...I believe Mickey is there, and it gets better reviews for the food.

I'll probably try that one next time. DS and I did the AK breakfast on our honeymoon and loved it (before it was at TH), so we brought my parents back there when DS was a baby and the food was good...but the characters flew by the tables so fast we hardly got any pics. Pluto was actually blurry in the one photo we got because he was moving. However, I've seen some really great reviews as well since it moved to TH so I'm not opposed to trying it again :)

I definitely agree. I would go back though just because of the characters and atmosphere. Also, we always do the DDP so it's actually a pretty good value.

Donald's Breakfast at Animal Kingdom is the BEST character breakfast on property IMO. I have ate at all of them except Cape May. I love that Daisy is there and that they are in the Safari outfits! PLUS... the buffet is HUGE! They even have a ham carving station. This has become one of our must-do's every trip! I say definitely put it on your itinerary next time! :thumbsup2

As another PP has said the Tusker house Char Breakfast is a good place to meet Mickey! Plus I also think that the breakfast food at The Donald breakfast safari is some of the best there is. That is why we have gone back time and time again. I am a bit disappointed when you mentioned that the Dinner at Chef Mickey was bad. I just booked a dinner there. I already knew that the breakfast was not so good. We had it years back and vowed not to do it again. But after combing all of the menues trying to find something that fits everybody, I looked, as a last resort, at chef mickeys dinner spread and it does fit for everybody. So I guess I may be dissapointed, and I can still cancel, but I will continue to look and see what I can find.

I haven't had dinner there but I have had breakfast there twice and I won't be giving it another chance either. Both times the food was just really bad for the price you pay. Crystal Palace is my favorite and we have a breakfast scheduled at the Tusker House next week. I can't wait!

We have eaten here every time but this time not. I can't see paying $180 or more for the 5 of us when my 3 kids don't eat that much. It is a waste of money. We are doing TRex and Sci-fi this time only as we have the counter service plan.

Not bad luck, for some reason this restaurant has continually over the years gotten worst. It's very sad when you pay the kind of money thats charged for probably one of the worst meals.

We've crossed this meal of our list back about 5 years ago. This past September while traveling with some of my children and grandchildren, they decided to have their last dinner at Chef Mickey, DH and I declined knowing how bad the food was. Couldn't talk them out of it. They returned say it was the all time worst.

This restaurant is always packed, and until attendance declines or enough complain there will be no changes. We have made ADR at Garden Grill in Epcot to see Mickey this coming trip. Grandson loves Mickey. It will be our first time eating here. hoping we will not be disappointed. Sadly there are very few restaurants that are now offering The Classic Disney Characters. It seem to all be about the Princesses. If you have little girls that wonderful lots of meals to pick from, but if you have little boys there isn't much available for them.

We haven't gone to Chef Mickey's in the past few trips. We have had both dinner and breakfast and didn't care for either one. To see Mickey, we go to 'ohana for breakfast. We like that one much better :)

We do all the character meals, but cape may at the beach club has to be our favorite. The food is always wonderful and your waitress would be happy to bring a fresh made omelette from the kitchen. The characters always seem to spend a little extra time and its not as crazy as some of the other character meals.

We have done Chef Mickey's for dinner twice (possibly more, can't remember) and we won't do it again. I can make better food than that and I'm barely able to maneuver a can opener...

But we haven't had bad experiences at breakfast yet. We do stick to the basic eggs-bacon-pancakes-waffles-fruit, all of which are kinda hard to screw up.

We go to Chef Mickey's if we feel like going to a character meal and either A/can't get Tusker House or Crystal Palace or B/don't have hoppers/tickets for that day and need to pick a restaurant outside of a park.

Rest assured, it wasnt just bad luck. CM's has the worst breakfast on disney property. i'd much sooner eat a counter service breakfast before going there. We've been once, and never again. Food selection was crap, quality was crappier (food wasnt even warm!!). It was awful. Everything about it was awful. The atmosphere reminded me of a school cafe. For such a nice hotel, why did they decorate it so dreadfully?? Its horrible. we'll never go back, even if it were the last restaurant standing.

I pretty much feel that way about all of the Disney buffets. For the most part, we will not do them anymore. We are going to try Cape May in October, because we have never been there. I'm thinking I may enjoy it more since it has seafood. :cool1: DW cannot eat seafood, so hopefully she'll like the other choices.

We have always found it to be pretty much in line with the general standard of food at Disney if I'm honest. We like the whole experience at Chef Mickey's, and have had worse character buffets that were equally expensive.

I didnt think the food was that bad but i have issues with my ear and it was a little to loud for me. I did think it was a little over priced tho.
