Hi all,
We are heading down to Vero in June (we aren't DCV). I figured this was the best place to ask this though. We are coming from Ct. Is MCO the best airport to fly into and then rent a car? I also saw an airport called MLB. Can anyone give me their opinion on the best way to get there?
Thanks
Suzanne

When we went to Vero last summer, we flew into West Palm Beach. It was cheaper than MCO and it was a shorter drive (about 1 1/2 hours). Melbourne is about 45 min away and being a smaller airport, airfare into here could possibly be higher. You'll want a car regardless of where you fly into.

Try the fares for Melbourne (MLB) just to compare. It is only a 45 minute drive to the resort from there and a very small, very easy in/out airport. I fly Delta into there. You can also rent cars there. For me, it's no more expensive than Orlando or West Palm Beach, but all markets are different. Check them out.

I am wondering what shape the beach is in at Disney's Vero Resort. Were repairs necessary? If so, have they been completed?

It's a lovely place to vacation and we are thinking of returning sometime in the future.

Is a car necessary at Vero? Is that for transportation to the resort only, or because there is not that much to do? Anyone have a list of what activities are available onsite?

I am also wondering if the beach areas have been repaired - MS said there was quite a bit of damage done to the resort.

Thanks!

Repairs are pretty much underway and reports are that the resort itself is in good shape. They are now re-building (and redesigning) the boardwalk out to the beach. As to they physical beach -- there was quite a lot of debris brought on shore and quite a bit of erosion. Of course, this is more than just a "Disney" project. I believe work has begun but I'm not sure how long it will take for total restoration and clean-up of the beaches. (I would think clean-up would be done by summer.) I think there will also be some restrictions on the work they can do once turtle nesting season begins.

A car is very nice to have at Vero because it will give you the freedom to get out and explore the area.

For an airport I prefer MCO. If you arive at rush hour around West Plam Beach I find you can hit more traffic than at Orlando. It never takes me more than 1 hour 20 minutes from MCO to Vero. However, i would use the airport offering the cheapest flights.

We visited Vero in Dec. and the beach was nice wider than before. I believe Disney bought in a lot of sand for the beach. The CM's said they had a lot of water damage the reort looked nice. Going back in May.
