DW would like to head to Vero Beach in early to mid-January but is concerned the weather will be too cold to enjoy the beach? Any thoughts, experiences, or comments? We're in the midwest and looking to escape the cold after the holidays...

I live about 25 minutes north of Vero Beach resort on the same barrier island. The weather in January can be really variable! I would count on needing a jacket in the evening, but you could very well be on the beach or in the pool in Jan.

I do have to mention that we have had really bad red tide as of late. It seems to have dissipated some this week, but it keeps coming and going. I know that it was bad as far south as Sebastian, so I'd try to find out if it's been affecting VBR before booking a trip there to enjoy the beach. Last weekend we couldn't even go outside w/o coughing terribly. It's been really hurting the beachside businesses because everyone is avoiding the beach right now.

Oh lucky you to live in Florida, and by the beach!! We were thinking of a last week of January trip. Even if its not good beach weather, it should be pleasant enough for day trips like to Kennedy Space Center, McKee Botonical gardens, etc? My son is out of college for the whole month of January.

We feel lucky to live here every day:goodvibes Yes, I think that the weather in Jan. is excellent for a visit to the space center and other area attractions:) In the winter I often see people sitting on the beach with a blanket on their lap reading a book. Even if it's not swimming weather, the beach is still beautiful:thumbsup2
