I've read through many great Vero Beach posts and now have many wonderful ideas for our upcoming visit at the end of September.

I do have TWO questions for the Vero Beach Vets out there who love to talk about their favorite beach escape.

1 -We'd like to buy chairs for the beach as we spend alot of time there and the $6/day per chair rental is high. Any suggestions where we should shop?

2 -Also where is the best place to buy groceries off-site?

We'll have a car and will be driving in from WDW so if there is a place along the way that's fine or one that is close by VB that's great too!

3 -Anything else (recommendations for dining, entertainment, etc.) you would like to add is also welcomed and I thank all of you for taking the time to respond.

We're really looking forward to our trip....even more so now that I've read about how much all of you have enjoyed your stays at Vero.

There is a Super Walmart about 10 minutes from the resort that should have inexpensive chairs and groceries. On our last visit we noticed that there is a new supermarket that we passed on the way to the Super Walmart that is a few minutes closer. I don't know if they would have the beach chairs.

To get to the Super Walmart, go out the main entrance of the hotel and take a right. At the lights take a left and go back over the bridge. At the main intersection take a right. You will see Super Walmart on the left hand side after about 5 miles. You will also have passed the other grocery store on your way.

As for dining, we never leave DVC property so I can't help you with that. We think the restaurants at the resort are ok for a meal or two. We usually cook in the room.

Vero is my favorite DVC resort. I hope you will enjoy your trip as much as I enjoy mine!

My best recommendation for dining are the Black Pearl Brasserie (website below) in Vero Beach and Captain Hiram's in Sebastian. The latter is not air conditioned, but it is right on the water. Shutters at the DVC is also good. We particularly enjoy the Green Cabin Room at the DVC for drinks and/or dessert. I just wish they were open later!! :(

The Wal Mart is great and Donald already gave you excellent directions to get there.

We're at VB right now so it's easy to answer your questions. The Super Walmart and Publix mentioned earlier are on US1, so if you are cutting over from I95 you end up south of them, but it's easy to head out for a quick trip. Interestingly, we were also looking for beach chairs and since they are 'seasonal', we weren't able to find any in Target or K Mart. Maybe Walmart will be different.

Captain Hiram's is a standard, right on the marina. The Ocean Reef Grill in Vero is also recommended, but is currently closed for 'employee vacation'. It is very quiet here currently. We also ate at Shutters one night and had the seafood buffet tonight in Sonya's.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Thank you all very much!

donald@home... we will definitely be hitting the Super Walmart...we appreciate you taking the time to write directions.

Paul in CT....Black Pearl sounds terrific. I'll let you know if we can fit it into our plans.

ncligs...thanks for the info on the mall and the link. Hopefully the weather will be so fantastic we won't need to hit the mall (but it's always good to have a backup plan!)

poohstx...hope you are having a wonderful time...thanks for writing to say HI! Hoping that since the Walmart is so close to the beach that beach chairs will be availiable.

Thanks again everyone...only 13 more days til we head southward.

flower71,

BTW, I should mention that there are not a lot of better restaurants open on Monday nights in Vero Beach. The Black Pearl Brasserie was one of the few that were. The other Black Pearl Riverfront was not. We have yet to try that one. It looks a bit pricey! :)

Enjoy your trip! We were just there in early August for three days and really enjoyed it. VB DVC is very relaxing.

BTW, we used to live in East Windsor, NJ and really liked going to Philadelphia. It's a great city!
