Hi all! I'm new to this forum and think it's great. I've been in DVC for two years and am planning my first trip to Vero Beach this July.

Can anybody help me out with what to do/see while there...and any other relevant info that I may want to know.

See ya...

You will find that VB is a great place to relax. The resort has a great pool with a slide. There is a snack bar at the pool too.

The beach is beautiful too! It can get a little rough in the surf,so be careful! You can rent chairs ,umbrellas,watercraft,etc... right on the site. There are no lifeguards on Disney's beach, but at the county beach nearby there are.

There are places to see manatees, but when ewe were there, they didn't show up. We saw a lot of dolphins in the Indian River on the causeway that connects the island to the mainland, which is just north of the resort. there is also golf and fishing in the area, though I have yet to sample that.

I've seen mixed reviews on the restaurants at the resort, but I have enjoyed EVERY meal we've taken there (try the Cuban sandwich).

The area is famous for citrus too,so a visit to some of the local produce stands might be nice.

Some folks seem to like the outlets in the area for shopping. Kennedy Space Center is about 1 1/2 hours away. You can also go biking ( my wife enjoyed the guided bike trip, I slept in that day). Try to do a campfire night and have a drink on the outside patio at the lounge!

Hope you enjoy your trip. You didn't say whether or not you had kids, so I won't elabrate on the activities for them

My husband thought the Piper Airplane factory tour was outstanding. (He has his private pilot's license.) If you are interested, call ahead and schedule your tour. I was surprised that there were so many people interested - it was scheduled. They offer them several times a week and they run every 15 - 20 minutes beginning in the morning.

Thanks DVCDAD and Janiejoe...we do have three children...sounds like they will not want to leave the pool area...

There is a lot more to do than people think. If you have the time, get a message there. They are very good and will enhance the relaxation of your trip.

Have fun.:bounce:

JohnPete,

The children's activities were wonderful for our kids.During both of our trips to Vero, last summer and '99, we had kids ranging from 14-4 in the group. THe teen things weren't a big hit with our daughter. She prefers to stay alone rather than try to make friends for a short time only to never see them again (her philosophy~not mine). Our 10 year old LOVED the activities in her range. At the time they included cel painting, snorkeling lessons, craft making, games both indoors and out door type, scavenger hunts. The nice part about them is that they are all onsite, most right in the pool area so she could literally go from one to another and just check in with us on the way while we sat by the pool. THere are many for the little ones as well.. Have a great trip.

Thanks Patricia...my 11 year old loves doing all the things you mentioned in the reply. I can hardly wait to get there (11 more weeks)!!!!

Another great program is the 2DC club. A couple nights a week, the offer evening programs where for a small fee they feed the kids supper and do activities for the evening. It is great if Mom & Dad would like to have a quiet dinner and a drink!

The Mall at Vero Beach has all the stores that teens love to shop in and also a multiplex cinema. The downtown Vero shopping has some wonderful gift shops and lots of unique souvenirs. We spend most of our time at the wonderful pool, however. It is a good idea to get out early to grab some lounge chairs and spend the day. You can eat lunch poolside and get some total rest and relaxation. You will definitely enjoy Vero Beach! :)
