Does anyone know what the closest major league spring training sites are to Vero beach? If possible, I'd like to know the city name, field names and which team plays there. Anything within 1 hour drive would be great.

Any and all help is appreciated!

The Dodgers are right in Vero at Dodgertown. The Mets are down the road at Port St. Lucie. Atlanta Braves up at WDW. I think there is another team that is in Kissimmee. Those are the ones off the top of my head.

You got me curious so I did a Google search. Came up with this site that has info from 2000. My guess is that most of the teams are still in the same towns. I also learned that the teams in Florida are the "Grapefruit League" and the ones in AZ are the "Cactus League".

Thanks Pam,

I was actually hoping to find a team that the Red Sox would play (Grapefruit League) so that I could try out DVC at Vero and go to a game without having to drive all the way to Ft Myers - your info is helpful - I'll have to check the schedule - don't think we play too many national league teams in Spring Training though!

Thanks!

I saw the Vero Dodgers play the Tampa Yankees in May. There are plenty of American VS National League games in the minors.

BTW, Dodgertown was great. FREE parking, $4 admission (and I sat right near home plate) and on Monday nights they had $1 hot dogs, beer or soda. It was a bargain and a fabulous night. Lots of locals were there and it had a true family feel to it. It's old fashioned baseball.

After you do the Dodgers/Red Sox at Vero, be sure to go see a game at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

I did a game there in March 2002. It was great. Cheap tickets and good seats. I took a camera with a telephoto lens and got great shots.

I own at Beach Club and plan to eventually book some future trips for Spring Training. :wave2: ::MickeyMo

DH and I are planning to spend a 8-10 days in 2005 attending as many spring training games as we can. We went to a Dodger game while staying at VB a few years ago.

Here are a couple of websites I found in my search. Sorry, I don't know how to send links, just copy and paste. Will have to ask DD how to do it. Most days I feel like roadkill on the information highway. (can't wait to see if Nick comes up with a smilie for that one!)
