Vero Beach Restaurants?

We are staying at Vero Beach for two nights in the next couple weeks after our cruise and I was wondering what the restaurants are like. The Seafood Buffet at Sonya's sounds interesting but is rather pricey and I was wondering if it was worth the money. And what about Shutters or the Green Cabin Room? I just don't know if it's worth driving off property. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm going with DH AND DD6 in June and I'd love this input as well as I have no intention of eating every meal for 4 days at the resort....

We have never done the seafood buffet at Sonya's, but we ate there several times and the restaurant is excellent.
Sonya's is somewhat formal, so Shutters (less formal) may be better for kids.
Shutters is great, especially for breakfast.
The two restaurants actually share the same kitchen, so if you ask nicely you may be able to order off either menu.

The Green Cabin Room is the bar. It's a great bar, but it has a light menu. It's nice for munchies, but I wouldn't do dinner there.

For lunch, Bleachers is a good choice. Bleachers is the pool snack bar, and they offer burgers, chicken strips, cold sandwiches, ect...

If you have the DDE, Sonya's is now on the list! :smokin:

We have done the seafood buffet the last 3 years and we will not be doing it again. It seemed to us to be have declined in selection the last time we were there and there are other places we enjoy more. Our boys have never eaten there....no they did the first year and didn't go back. But everyones taste is different. Sonyas has a good grapefruit chicken and if you pre-order they will make an amazing amaretto cheesecake that is not on the menu. We pre-order it every year!

Shutters is also on the DDE list! :thumbsup2

Another tidbit that may affect your choice. Sonya's is only open Thurs. - Sunday.

We ate at Shutters during our last trip (3x) which was a bit much but we didn't want to leave the beach and but in the effort to find a restaurant. Shutters as a fairly wide selection so that was doable (even for vegetarian DH). I had the Mahi the first night which was very good, strip steak the second which was not so good and the last night of our trip I went back to the Mahi. We also went to Capt. Hiram's Sand Bar which was fun and had pizza delivered from Orchid Island Pizza and had a picnic on the beach. We weren't into fine dining this trip!

If you do a search you will come up with a lot of other suggestions.
Ocean Grill and Capt. Hirams are always on the list.

We were in the rooms below Lisa last week, and both restaurants were great! I hedn't realized that Shutters was on the DDE list or we would have taken the discount.

The staff informed me that Sonya's was now open only Thurs-Sun and that thye seafood buffet hed been discontinued. We dined there on the Saturday of Presidents' Day weekend and things were excellent.

We also went to Cap'n Hiram's up in Sebastian. Unfortunately, we arrived after 6:30 and things were really busy, so we had to wait a looooong time for a table. If you're doing Hiram's, go early or expect to spend a lot of time there. The food was good tho, and we wouldn't have missed the birdwatching boat trip we did beforehand for anything.

There are also a couple of good resataurants in Vero Beach proper. We went to a combination Thai/ Japanese restaurant, which we were leery about initially, but it turned out to be pretty good.

Good luck!

Pumpkinboy ... what was the birdwatching boat trip you mentioned?? We'll be there in May and would love to do something like that. Thanks.
