Hello everyone!! Can someone tell me if Buying points into Vero Beach or Hilton Head works the same as the other resorts? For instance, if I have points there, can I still try to book another resort at Disney World in the 7 month window? Thanks for your help!!

Yes, it works the same. I just booked beach club with my Vero points.

at the 7 month window (subject to availability), sure. but "subject to availability" can be very important.

most here will encourage you to buy SSR as the best value for primarily "onsite at wdw" trips. you can book onsite at 11 months out, you get a 2054 expiration date (not 2042 like VB and HHI) and it's a little safer than owning property near the coast.

owning near the coast is part of the reason annual dues at those resorts is so much higher. you'll burn through your up-front savings fairly quickly with higher annual dues.

if a big storm does hammer a resort, that means high annual dues go even higher (it's called a "special assessment.") it has never happened so far (got close at VB once) but it is a risk.

there is also a small risk that if aulani sales completely tank, disney might spin off the offsite resorts like VB and HHI as well (removing them from the DVC system). it's a small risk but i wouldn't discount it completely.

HHI is a great resort to own if you want to stay there during the summer sometimes. i love the area (although other timeshares are better IMO.) but i wouldn't own VB or HHI unless i were really planning to stay there more often than not. VB is cheap for a reason and not worth the risk IMO.

Let me add a little to my question, we already own at SSR, I was looking at this as an add-on. We just need some more points and thought if we buy an add on at Vero or Hilton Head that we could still stay at WDW.

I would only add on at Vero or HH if I wanted the 11 month booking window as they are the two highest MF resorts. SSR is a good compromise between resale price and low dues, the second lowest MF's, plus the 2054 end date

I understand the points expire in 2042 but I was also looking at a Vero Contract - yes, we plan to stay there from time to time but would also like to use the points at the 7 month mark for WDW resorts. Is that an issue?

A lot of variables. If you want WDW at Christmas for instance you may need an 11 month booking window. But for the most part booking at 7 months works as long as you know you may not always get resort of choice.

VB dues are so high that buying that resort for the low buy in cost does not save as much money as you think.

Yes! the MF are high for VERO Beach, but there are lots more available in resale for OCT UY which is our UY - unless we consider buying say a DEC UY at SSR for example or buy direct at double the price

I own Vero as part of my mix and love it. I didn't have any problem booking Animal Kingdom or the Beach club using the Vero points. I love having the 11 month window for Vero too... You really need it if you want the cottage for the summer or for any length of time at high season.

I have 350 points total and 150 is at Vero and I don't regret it.

that is so good to know! that is exactly what we are looking at a 150 add on for VERO for OCT UY Thanks!!!!

Buying VG or HH are fairly simple choices to make. One can make blanket statements about both that are essentially the same. It will invariably cost more money to buy either than SSR or OKW long term. Thus buying simply to get cheap points isn't an option because they won't be cheaper. VB will cost more within 5 yrs, HH will take longer. OTOH, both are great resorts and worth owning if you plan to use the points there regularly and then possibly use them off years at WDW or similar. IF you can get a subsidized VB contract for a "reasonable" price, that may take some of the sing out of the costs there.

We added on at HH. Our plan was to go every 3rd year...we added 75 points at first. Then we figured we might go every other year...saves us on park ticket and airfare. We went to VB in Aug 2012 (I think with OKW points and we had to grab it first thing in AM at 7 month window) and are doing HH this summer (booked 11 months out :)). We first used our OKW at HH in July 2009 but had trouble getting our exact dates at the 7 month window...so that's why we added on. We have since added 50 more points there since we figure we'll go every other year now. We used some of our HH points to book BCV for Jan of 2013...no prob at 7 month window. Good luck in your decision.

It would not be difficult for us to book a yearly trip at VB but it is certainly a challenge at 7 months, there have been various times in the past where we have not been able to get the dates so we are seriously leaning towards an add-on there

If you want to regularly go to Vero and book anything but a hotel room it really helps to own there. My 2 cents. We love Vero for pre and post cruise stays.
