My DW and I are thinking of taking a quick trip to Vero Beach in the middle of Dec (11-14). Right now we are booked at BWV for some time at WDW, but thought maybe we would try VB instead since we have a trip back to WDW in March with friends.

What is VB like in Dec? Will it be too cold for the ocean? :cold: I know the pools are heated. We have a DD4 and a DS1. Will they be bored? :rolleyes1

We know we would have a good time at WDW :cool1: , but thought maybe a relaxing trip to VB would be nice. Would WDW be relaxing at that time? I know it is low attendance time.

We don't know much about VB. What should we do?!?!?!?! :confused3

What a coincidence!. My DW and I stayed at VB DVC last year the exact same days at a studio (12/11-12/14) soon after the hurricanes rolled through and they had reopened. It was wonderful time to be there.

We were greeted by a beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby and a towel alligator on our bed! We also had a partial view of the ocean and a full pool view. The vegetation "hiding" the ocean was much lower than on previous trips. The service was outstanding especially considering what many had been through at home due to the hurricanes.

Frankly, I think there is more to do for "little ones" at VB than for adults, but that does not bother us "emptynesters". I think the campfires at night would be fun if we still had our "kids", but they are all grown up now! :( :)

The beach was nearly deserted. We did not swim in the ocean, but my DW did walk in the surf. There were a couple of people swimming in the ocean. I guess I would stick to the pool. :)

Captain Hiram's was not fully open, but the SandBar was. We really enjoyed it. The Riverside Cafe in Vero is also nice.

We combined our trip with several days at WDW afterward at BWV. I can never get that close to WDW without stopping there. I look at the Vero stay as getting rested for the WDW visit. ;)

I hope this helps.

IMHO, it's really going to depend on the weather. I've stayed at VB twice during early December. The first time (with my DH, DB, DSIL DN-16 months & DN - 5 yrs), the weather was absolutely gorgeious. It was warm (low 80's) and sunny every day. We swam, played mini-golfand drove into VB one day. The kids had a great time - even the little guy loved the water.

The second time it was cold, cloudy & rainy. That time I was with two adult cousins, so it didn't matter that we couldn't swim or sit on the beach - talk about empty! We spent most of our time in VB shopping or eating. Watched an evening parade one evening - very cute.

Anyway, hope you luck out with the weather.

Best wishes -
