We are leaving tomorrow for Vero Beach and I would like to be able to drive to route to the closest hospital when we arrive. Does anyone know where the closest hospital is and how long it takes to get there? DS has a history of febrile seizures when he gets his shots and he got a shot last Tuesday. I figured we would be in the clear by the time we left, but the doctor told us that if he has a reaction it would be 1 to 6 weeks after the shot:(

I am trying to plan ahead since his first seizure resulted in him being airlifted and in ICU.

If anyone has the physical address to Vero Beach I could use mapquest to find the hospital.

Thanks,
Christy

The address listed in our guidebook is

9250 Island Grove Terrace, Vero Beach, FL, 32963.

The resort phone is 561-234-2000. I'm sure you could call the front desk and they could give you info on the closest hospital.

Despite the address listed above, if you could find the intersection of A1A and CR 510 - you're right there.

I know I've seen a hospital when driving into Vero - if I recall, it's not far at all.

Best wishes on a fun and "uneventful" trip! :)

DH and I just got back from Vero and I saved the map of the area.

From the resort, you would turn right onto AIA and then make a left onto route 510. At the intersection of 510 and route 1, make a left and go south on route 1. The map isn't to scale so I can't tell you how far it is but the hospital emblem shows up around 37th street. When you check in I'm sure the front desk would know.

I certainly hope you won't have to use these directions .. hope you have a wonderful, peaceful vacation

sap1227, a few years ago we had an emergency with my son during our stay at Vero. I wish I could remember the name of the hospital, it was a short ride from Vero, but not actually in Vero. The front desk recommended it to us as they felt it was a "better" hospital. When you get to Vero ask right away at the front desk. They were very good about advising us. The staff at the hospital was excellent.

Best of Luck, Have a Wonderful Trip!! And I hope you don't even need the hospital.

Sorry for the additional post, can never figure out how to edit. I just looked in my papers and I believe it was the Sebastian Medical Center, but now that I think of it it might not have been a full hospital and therefore not opened 24/7. It sounds as though this is what you need. Ask at the desk and explain your situation. They can give you the best place.

Good Luck and Have a Magical Time!!!!

Searching in Yahoo!, I came up with Indian River Memorial Hospital. The address is 1000 36th Street. The phone number listed is (772)567-4311. According to Yahoo!, this hospital is 10.0 miles from Disney Vero Beach.

Hope this helps.

Here's a link to the hospital's web site. (Although you may have already left by now.) I would notify 911 and the front desk if you have any problem.

Thank you all. You guys are the greatest. Whenever we have a question about anything (Disney related or not) I know I can find an answer here!

DH is a Firefighter/EMT, but he will not be with us most of the trip. He reminded me (=lectured me:Pinkbounc ) what to do in case of a seizure (I have Valium to give him whenever he has a fever to stop it ahead of time and Valium Gel to give him as a suppository after the seizure starts). I am hoping not to need any of it!!!

I will talk to the front desk when we get there. Just 5 more weeks of worrying and no more shots until Kindergarden!

Thanks again for all the help!
Christy
