Vero Beach Area Restaurants

I'm not kidding at all. If I want to see the attic scene of the Haunted mansion, I'll go to the Magic Kingdom.

About 15-20 years ago.

"Wet, mildewy basement" isn't a pleasant eating environment. It's a health hazard. If that, and a menu that hasn't changed since 1965, are your thing, great. We did it once and it sucked. Never again.
Whatever... I really don't care whether or not you like the OG, but I find some of these comments to be silly... Too silly to rebut.

Some of my comments might be a bit tongue in cheek, but they're my impressions of the place. Here's the non-tongue in cheek version--The menu is dated. The decor is dated. The place smells like a wet basement. Some people like that. I don't.

Whatever...

Right back at ya. ;)

Okay, I'm curious... How is it possible for a sea food / steakhouse menu to be outdated? It's not an exotic menu if that's what you mean (thank God).
Also, it's an an old nautical theme, and the building itself has a rich history. I'm curious what you think should be changed?

PS- I have ate there 20+ times and have never noticed a funky smell.

Different strokes for different folks i guess.........both Cpt. Hirams and Ocean Grill are places that are worth discovering for yourself. There are people that think Outback is a good steak and Olive Garden is good itailian, and some that feel otherwise. I fall in the later, but that does not mean i have to make fun of outback or make people feel dumb for eating there.

I ate there once...but while we were there.....a sunken WWII German UBoat rose out of the sea and shot torpedoes at the peir!!!...then we got Ebola from just using a napkin!!!
Trust the majority...it's a good place...as is Estefan's resort and Bella Napoli.

DVCconvert. I only list locals joints with Cheap Rum, Lousy Food and MilliVanilli Music I like to frequent and crawl out of.;) This in hoping the masses will stay away.;) Riverside Cafe Case in point. Worst Kept Secret in VB with a smelly waterside location. Terrible Sunday Brunch. Worst Grouper this side of FL, and the Barmaid needs a serious shave. Seriously Riverside Cafe is our favorite locals spot, beach casual, nothing fancy have a good time with live music and a $17AYCE Sunday Brunch/Raw Bar. There are a lot of good choices within a 5-10 mile radius of the Resort(Sebastian,Vero Beach) Hope you enjoy your dinner wherever you end up.pirate:

We like squid lips and mr. Manatees for casual, inexpensive seafood/wings.
Oriente for upscale dining.
Nino's for Italian/ Pizza

We went to Nino's for pizza. When we pulled up we were a little nervous, its a smaller older place but we LOVED the pizza. Also I have to say Shutters. We ate there twice and thought the food was really good.

We asked the same question about VB prior to a short trip this spring - not to the Disney VB resort, but to Gloria Estefan's resort. One of our DISers recommended the Undertow Cafe in the old downtown area of Vero, and we found it to be excellent.

The Undertow Cafe is first of all, a local hangout. We went on a Saturday night and there were large parties of obviously local folks there, which I always consider a good sign. The place feels more like a bar than a restaurant, but the food and service were both excellent. The menu is varied and quite imaginative, and everything we tried was absolutely wonderful.

They had an excellent local band that played 70-80's rock, a little Jimmy Buffet, and a little reggae, so to us that felt pretty Key West. Definitely a good food and good times place, and we will go there whenever we're in VB.

Here's a link to their website. http://www.undertowcafe.com/

FYI The Undertow is closed replaced by Stax. Same kind of eclectic menu.
