As an owner at Vero, I would really like to hear from any of you who are currently at the Disney Vero Beach Resort. Has everyone evacuated?

Just was watching the Weather Channel. They have staff in West Palm, Palm Bay, Orlando and Smyrna Beach. All the beachfront communities have pretty much evacuated the area. West Palm looked like it was getting a lot of wind. They were all worried about tornados being spawned off the incoming hurricane.

We are currently at Saratoga Springs, and was told Thursday that Vero Bch Resort was closed and Disney has relocated all guests to other DVC resorts at WDW. We will be here until Monday as our flts home have been cancelled as the Orlando airport was closed as of 12 noon yesterday.

Nobody's at Vero. Guests and Cast members who have been evacuated are staying at other WDW hotels and resorts.

Just spoke to a friend who was in a beach cottage at VB. They received an "Urgent note" Wednesday night to be out be Thursday 9 am. They were not given any relocation assistance, were told WDW was full. They ended up driving home.:(

I was told it closed on Thursday.

We have a reservation Tuesday night. I doubt they will be open.

I hope all of the CM's and guests remain safe.

I can't imagine wanting to stay there during this storm. It's my DVC home. And I pray for it to withstand the storm. But I wouldn't want to be there. This storm is huge. Reports of mobile homes losing roofs in Vero already and it hasn't even made it on shore.

July

ps praying for all in the storms path.

While I realize that VB has been evacuated, I can't watch all the coverage at every moment, and I was wondering whether anyone had seen/heard anything regarding VB resort on any of the myriad broadcasts coming from the area? We've been to VB twice, and I know the resort itself is elevated from the ocean by about 15-20 feet. It also has large (10ft tall) bushes shielding it from oceanside. I know the resort itself is quite sturdy, and am hoping it weathers the storm well.

Any word about the resort itself would be appreciated. I'm already praying for everyone down there, and will continue to do so until this storm passes. Maybe even then, I'll say a prayer or two :sunny:

I've been checking www.tcpalm.com for info on the Vero area.

They seem to be doing a pretty good job of informing people about damage, etc.

They may have something if the resort does suffer extensive damage.

I'm listening to the live stream of the WFTV broadcast. They just said Vero was going to be hit with the northeast side of the eye, which is the most dangerous part. I heard earlier they were being hit with 100 MPH winds.

Talked to my inlaws about 90" ago. They are VB residents and evacuated out on Thursday. The whole island was evacuated on Thursday including Disney's VB. They are now staying with other relatives in Orlando and at that time the winds were picking up and they were getting rain but still tolerable. They don't think they'll be able to get back home until Monday. They said it took them 5 hours on Thursday afternoon to get from VB to Orlando.

twinmom,

DH was scheduled to leave Florida on Friday night to return here and help us pack up.

We are scheduled to move into our apartment on Wednesday after staying at the Disney Resort on Tues. evening.

:( I doubt the resort will be open and we don't know if we will have a place to live at this point if any damage occurs to the apartment complex.

Dh had been staying with friends in Port St. Lucie and they all had to evacuate on Thursday. He helped co-workers board up their homes and started North. It took him all afternoon and all night to go from Vero Beach to Valdosta, GA becuase there was so much traffic.

He had to bring everything back that he took with him because we couldn't leave it and risk losing it.

I don't know what we are going to do. He may have to return without us.

We sold our house and have to be out by the 23rd and I have my first Dr.'s appt in Vero on the 27th.

At least we are all safe and together. I'd be nuts if he was down there now.

I hope everyone stays safe. We've been checking local websites for any news out of the Vero Beach area.

Most recent reports have Orchid Island getting hammered by winds, rain and rough surf. Landfall has not been made yet.

Let's hope the higher elevation from the beach of the resort will help protect it from the worst of the expected storm surge.

Someone just posted on another thread that the Ocean Grill is gone. I hope not.

How sad.:(

I was just going to post my concern for the Ocean Grill. They have a book that shows the devastation they took back in a storm in the 80's. I heard a report on MSNBC from the mayor of Vero early this afternoon and he mentioned a restaurant that was obviously the Ocean Grill was already having waves crash underneath. He also remarked that there had been tremendous erosion already. I think we'll have problems at Vero -- hopefully, the buildings will stand up to it.

If you take a look at the Ocean Grill you'll see why it could be "no more". They have pictures showing how it began at the edge of an expansive beach back in the 1930's and is now "in the water".

WNBC in NY showed shots of Disney's Vero Resort today. This afternoon it looked okay.

Brian Williams was forbidden from heading out onto the barrier island where the resort is located. He said the sheriff wouldn't even allow them to go if they signed a waiver. I don't think he was very happy about the situation.

Two things........first of all that's a great up-to-date site floridafam, thankyou for the link!!!

Number 2, I have NO clue how you (floridafam) are staying as calm and cool as you sound. You're really going through the mill here, what with your move *or NOT as the case may be*, and all the other hurricane related dilemmas you've been going through this week! YIKES!!

Just to let you know, since I found out you were moving to the Vero area, you've been in my prayers. What an awful thing to not know the status of your new home right now.

But you're also quite right in that you're all safe and sound and that IS what counts tonite!

DisMN,

Thanks. We've got no choice but to be calm. I guess there really isn't much we can do.

I'm sure Vero is going to look so different when we finally get there.

I really don't want to have to say goodbye to my Dh again and I know my children don't want to, either.

We're hoping our apartment complex is far enough inland to escape some of the damage.

I'm glad we hadn't put down a deoposit on a home yet. The hassle would be awful.

I keep thinking of all the places we love and if they are going to be there. I feel so bad for all of the employees who may not have a place to go next week.

Now there is another hurricane, Ivan heading at 21 miles per hour toward south Florida? Suppose to hit around Friday?

Glad to hear you guys are all safe. And your right theres nothing you can do about it, so you mioght as well stay calm.
funny threee weeks ago we were at Vero and the waitress at the Green Cabin room. told my mom she moved from the west Coast of Florida to Vero. Because historically nothing ever hits there. I keep thinking about that woman and wondering where she is?

If that is true, Hopefully this is out of the norm and the area is getting it before you arrive. Think posetive right? Good Luck with your DH! I am sure all is fine!
