We are headed to Vero in a just over a week! We are traveling with another couple and will have 3 kids under 5 with us.

Was wondering if anyone has any comments about beach stuff. We are tyring to decide what kind of beach gear to bring since we are flying. Are the rentals for chairs, umbrellas, etc. reasonable and usually available? Are we better off trying to squeeze some of this stuff into our luggage?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I can't speak for the umbrellas as I never seek the shade, but the chair rentals are not particularly cheap. I would either buy some low end chairs at Wal-Mart etc. or just pack an older bedsheet to lay out on.

I think the chairs and umbrellas are between $25-45 per day.

We felt the rental rates were fair when we were at Vero. The umbrellas were great for getting out of the sun and I didn't think they were too expensive (I'll try to go find the exact prices we paid) and I think with 3 kids under 5 they would be necessary! As for the chairs, we did take some "beach" chairs along (we drove) but ended up using the loungers at the beach (just more comfortable for a longer time).

We never had an issue with not getting what we wanted, but we did go down as soon as the rentals were available and "set up camp". We did leave after that (meaning we did go back and forth to our room and also went up to the pool) and had no problem coming back later (no one ever "took" over our spot where we had to ask them to leave). I think the chair situation at the pool was much more of a "get there early or get the leftovers" situation.

I wouldn't really worry about squeezing a lot into my luggage (just my personal feelings). Not sure if the kid meals are still served in a pail down by the pool, but if so, that was perfect for an easy "toy" that didn't have to be packed to go home.

We did get boogie boards (my kids are older) at the WalMart down there instead of renting those every day. We paid about $10 for each of those. We also rented waverunners - which I think was around $35/half hour? There was a wait for that, but we wanted to go later in the day, so we didn't sign up until later.

Have a great time at Vero - I'm hoping we get to go back soon since we loved it there!

Hi just arrived home yesterday. Beach chairs for DVC members - chaise lounge with cushion 9.00 per chair per day, wood and canvas chair 7.00, umbrella 12.00. Wave runner $55.00 for a half hour. The first day we rented we were asked if we wanted to reserve and pay for the rest of our stay since we had gotten the last of the chairs and umbrellas. There were 20 umbrellas set up...we decided to take our chances and get to the beach earlier the next day. We didn't have any problems and that day I counted 29 umbrellas on the beach!!! We loved VB and hope to go back again.
