Verizon???

We use Verizon and like the coverage and general customer service, but I agree that they like to nickel-and-dime people. I don't have a data plan, but when we use data, it gets expensive. But it seems still less than using the plan. :confused3

We are thinking about switching our cell phone service from US Cellular to Verizon. I would love to hear from those of you currently using Verizon...the good, the bad and the ugly (but hopefully not too much ugly)! :)

Tell me whether this is a good choice for us. TIA!

Lori

US Cellular is getting Android phones if that is what you were looking at picking up with Verizon.

I think pretty much every major cell company nickel and dimes you. ATT and Sprint are no better. The best is how they avoid creating a tier for most people's usage. Example... $5 for 200 text messages. The next option up is 1500 for $15. Nothing in the middle say 750 for $10. Same with minutes... on my family plan it goes from 550 to 700 to 1400... NOTHING in between.

Pretty much its companies not really caring at all about their customers, seeing that as cattle and feeling they are entitled to those people. Unfortunately, all the national carriers pretty much do it, so "competition" in the market does little to improve the conditions. Without regulation, which will be fought tooth and nail and after the Citizens United ruling will be fought with as much money as possible, things will remain this way...

The interesting thing is how far we are behind when compared to many of the Asian nations due to a lack of regulation. The capabilities of the networks in Japan are years ahead of ours.

Droid X is made by Motorola. It's Motorola's response to the HTC Incredible.

Not much "official" information out there right now but it seems like the specs are very similar to the Incredible.

HTC, in my opinion, makes a better phone than Motorola. I would still go with the Incredible.

Phew! Thanks! It is so hard to make a decision, knowing that the market changes every 2 weeks, but we have to live with the decision for 2 years! We've been dragging our feet a little about the Incredible because it doesn't have a real qwerty keyboard, and we're not savvy with touchscreens...yet. Will the new Motorola have a keyboard like the "old" one?;)

on the 23rd of June, Verizon is having a show where they are releasing information on the next line of Motorola phones. One is going to be the Motorola Droid 2 which is going to have a redesigned keyboard then on the first droid they released. Then they are announcing the Droid X, which is going to be without a physical keyboard but will have a 4.3 inch screen in response to Sprints Evo 4g they just released. They will also release the dates in which they are coming out.

The Droid X does not have a physical keyboard but don't let that stop you. I like virtual keyboards far more than a physical keyboard. It takes a couple of hours of playing with it to get used to it but, once you do, you don't want to go back.

Also, the Droid X comes preloaded with Swype. Swype is also available for other Droid phones in beta (www.swypeinc.com). I am running Swype on my Incredible. Once you get used to using Swype, you can type almost twice as fast as tapping keys.

And it's not available for the iPhone!

That isn't really verizons fault, the phone is the issue, they don't make the phones. You should go in and get a new one and have them replace it.

Yeah, Verizon hasn't been too receptive to that idea as of yet. I realize that Verizon deals with a lot of manufacturers of phones, but Verizon told me that the problem was not with the phone, it was because I had not been applying software updates from Verizon to the phone. Okay, fair enough, I had not done one in nine months. However, I had no idea that by not applying a software update, I would be denied access to Verizon's network, which is essentially what I was told when I took the phone in earlier this week. They applied the software updates for me which was supposed to fix my problem. Not so much as I had a phone call this afternoon which drained my phone after 20 minutes. And yes, I charged the phone at home last night. I will buy a new battery if necessary, but that seems a little silly to me as the phone is not just one year old.

Oh well, we'll see what happens. Live and learn!

Oh, no! What is the Droid X? We were leaning toward Incredibles...should we wait longer, now?

the droid x has a slightly larger screen but they both have 1 ghz processors there really is no difference i have an htc droid incredible and it is amazing the camera is stunning and very fast i love everything on the phone i would stick with the incredible unless your getting yours after the droid x comes out cuz u just cant listen to the specs and think its going to be good but the droid incredible is incredible and i wont be switching when the X comes out thats for sure

Testing swype right now as I type this :)

Word is that the new droids will have the snapdragon proc that the incredible has.

Thanks again, Everyone!

We made the jump and are now members of the Verizon family. I appreciate all the feedback...it really made us feel good about our decision.

The DIS family is so helpful! :grouphug:

Welcome :) Be sure to let us know what you think. Which phone do you have?

Another vote for VZW -- been with them for about 7 years and their coverage in St. Louis is unbeatable!

And no, I am not willing to give up great coverage for an iPhone...

Which phone did you go with, and how do you like it so far?

DH and I got the Moto Droid (bogo was too good to pass up, so no Incredibles for us), and DD's each got the LG EnV touch.

Having a lot of fun checking out all the great features on the phones...and there are a lot of them! We've had a couple issues with sound quality when making calls - some times it's quiet and other times there seems to be an echo. Anyone else have similar problems?

Of course now the next question is...what are your favorite android apps???
