Survivor 49 - Watching? Thoughts?

I miss the older Survivor shows. Within 60 seconds, I wanted half of the contestants voted off. The over-the-top enthusiasm when first hitting the beach would have made me turn around and get back on the boat if I were there in person. I hope the 50th has some Parvati/Cirie/Rob/Ozzy/Tyson/Cochran/Sandra-style players.

ETA: Looking forward to seeing Mike White next season, too.

Told my husband I might be done after season 50. I've been watching since season 1 (he since season 2).

Immunity challenge was really different and involved every strength possible and the snake offered artistic variety... and for sure spitting to clear mud from team eyes
I liked the going in to woods and variety to it. Was becoming boring the same basic stuff over and over in the rectangle clearing. Show is already less dramatic with them getting so much rice etc, gone are the hunting and fishing and losing 25 lbs each season. At least make the challenges interesting.

Don't like or dislike anyone yet. Tribes appeared to be uneven in physical, but hey didn't stop the one team to get supplies. I just hate when the teams are uneven since it's mostly a physical game and one team gets obliterated early on. We shall see how it plays out.

I have a pool I'm part of so I have some money on this season. It makes it even more fun to watch. I have Jason and Kristina as my picks (assigned - probably not who I would have chosen).

They should have gotten rid of Annie. She won't be loyal long term.
Speaking of Annie could not believe she was 49. To watch her move around I would have thought she was older than my 65 years. Hurt me just to watch her.

I thought the same thing (I looked her age up too) and felt they would be better off voting her out. As time goes on, with less food/fuel she is likely to burn out real fast based on just week one. Nicole might have picked up some momentum being she's much younger and stronger. I think they were equally responsible for that immunity loss .... so then you need to think forward. Now maybe off camera one was more difficult and that factored.

I find him annoying but not as annoying as I was expecting to. And is it really cheating if there's no rule against it?
No. I guess not. But you’ll likely have all kinds of viewers feeling it’s wrong.

I just love the fact that he wasn’t trying to hide it or deny it. And it was smart of him to bring his puzzle pieces over to try to match them. And the fact that he still struggled with that was hilarious. Lol.

There's against the rules and against the spirit of the game most are going to object to things on Survivor (and Amazing Race) on the latter (the spirit of the game). At the same time decisions made by past players on both shows have altered and created new rules so sometimes it's not a rule until it becomes a rule rather than something laid out from the beginning.

If they didn't want the contestants to see each other's puzzle, they would have put the contestants in different locations. Teams often look at other's puzzles. There have been times when boxes were covering codes or puzzles and contestants would still run over to look at the answer. Smart players scramble their results before moving onto the next part of the challenge.

The looking isn't a problem. They have had covers to place on puzzles, covers that sometimes the players forget to actually use when they are available. I have no problem with the looking, it was that in my recollection it was the first time a player opted to do the most lazy (IMO) way of placing the puzzle pieces on the completed puzzle and to boot still didn't have it right because they were missing pieces. In the way that they spoke to the camera, whether it's a persona or not created for the camera, they came off as if they cannot do much without the aid of others but are also tone deaf to their own perceived superiority to others which is at odds with how they played that challenge. In terms of gameplay that's what got me wondering how they will do as a player and will I like that or dislike that over time. Players who cannot do things on their own either get brought to the end as a sacrifice or get voted off for weakness. Time will tell in subsequent episodes if this particular player is up to playing or just skating by.
