Ok, just picked our cruise Italy to Barcelona. and deciding between those two types of rooms. We have done 6 cruises - 4 DCL and 2 others all with a veranda. Our DCL cruises have been one concierge and the other 3 verano and we loved them all. But... its a $2500 difference but.. the portholes rooms are deck two.... The other porthole rooms are only a $1200 difference and I would spend that. So need some thoughts. Mediterranean is hot in summer so not going to be out on veranda's too much. With that extra $2500 it could mean a few (2-3) more nights in Italy before and then an extra night in Barcelona. But its deck 2... and never been there (I sound like a cruise snob)
This is an interesting first world problem to have.

No matter what my budget, I will always, ALWAYS choose deck 2. Even if it is more expensive. I loved that location, the closeness to the water from the windows, etc.

yep deck 2 is considered steerage - NOT

if you try it you might like it and not go back to concierge, and we need people willing to pay those prices to keep my cat 9 rooms less expensive!

You'll remember the fun times you had in Italy and Spain at each end of your cruise more than you'll remember that balcony. Save the cash.

I agree with the sentiments so far Europe is amazing! It will be way more worth it to have the time. And as long as you can see the ocean it's all good.

Ok so I booked a 9b in deck 2. W/ on ON board credit it was 6700 ish for 2A2K. Saved about 2100. I plan to see if a veranda is available to upgrade at port. I'll do it for 1k if it's available.
Thanks for the tips.
It's was interesting other cruises I noticed did Not have that much difference in price between the veranda and the porthole rooms.

unlikely to be a verandah for 4 persons at port if you are going in summer months with lots of families. if you want a verandah, you should book it now. we did deck 2, 9b and thought it was fine for Norway. I called day prior and asked about about any upgrades for 4 and they said very few at all and nil for 4 persons.

I thought I always wanted a verandah. Not sure if this is what you are referring to, but we just tried the large porthole for the first time (the ones you can lie in) and they are really nice for naps. We got a deluxe family stateroom (on the Fantasy) and having the verandah space being inside the room is really nice to have. The round tub also makes the shower much larger and less claustrophobic.
