Verandah vs Family Porthole Room on Dream?

You can't beat the veranda. You can step out and see sooo much more. You can look forward and aft and pull out your binoculars and focus in on thing in the distance.

THAT'S what I forgot to pack.....my binoculars! :rotfl:

Stating upfront, I am definitely a veranda person , I'm shocked at the lack of "inside" folk responding to this thread. Normally there is more reply's supporting inside/ocean view cabins; they state " it's not worth the extra $ 400 for a week, you only spend a few hours out on the veranda the whole cruise, you're never in your cabin, etc. " I'll just say it, as others have somewhat attempted to imply, you haven't sailed till you have a balcony, and it's the only way to go.
If you can swing a balcony , Do It.
Perhaps the inside proponents are still asleep because they don't realize it's daytime. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Too funny! I work nights, therefore I AM one of those day sleepers! lol. It was actually really hard for me to wake up in the morning on our cruises with an inside stateroom.....sooooo dark, and since I'm used to sleeping during the day anyways, it made it more difficult! lol. But, you have a verandah room and the sun is coming up over the beautiful sea, it makes you want to jump out of bed and start the day, and not want to miss a thing!! It was paradise!!

Notice to regular Disers. In post # 20 is a great photo of the "slight obstruction" that exists every, what, 6 or 7 cabins? Is some wonderful Diser with ambition keeping track of all these cabin anomalies, inside and out?

Where's HallofVa?

Soda isn't free with room service?! It's free up at the self-service stations on the pool deck now. I wouldn't know about room service though. We've never used it. lol.
Nope it's not free in room service nor is it if you go to one of the bars and request it. For example I went to one of the bars by the Aqua Duck and was told no there was a charge. But I was able to walk over to the self service stations and refill my cup for free.

I've done both and I will probably always sail on an inside cabin from now on. Verandahs are nice, but it my opinion it's not worth the extra money, and I loved the virtual porthole! :thumbsup2

OP here...I just booked my cruise this morning...changed dates to one week prior to take more advantage of my DD6's two-No school days over MLK in Jan 2013.

And I decided on Cat 5C - Deck 7 with verandah. This is quite a bit different than the Cat 8 I started with but I think we will definitely be pleased.:cool1:

Thank you everyone for your advice, opinions and comments.:worship:

Now I'll be stalking all of you on the other DCL threads to learn more!!;)
