Vera Bradley bags - What do you like about them?

This is my latest purchase!!

here's a review I wrote on it.

I just bought a saddle Up in Blue Rhapsody. I'm a Vera fan, but I'm also very picky. This has made it hard for me to find "the" bag for me. When the Saddle Up was first introduced, I was a hesitant about the flap closure. The bag itself seemed the perfect size and having the option to carry it crossbody was a huge plus, but the flap vs. the zipper closure concerned me.

So, I did my research, read other reviews and even test drove a Saddle Up in my local signature store. I was very pleased and wanted this bag. Today, I finally broke down and bought one.

The bag itself is roughly the size of a bowler as far as space. Big enough to carry what you need, but not so big that people comment on your cute diaper bag. (yes, just this week, i had that happen with the cargo sling). It has three unquilted pockets inside along with a zipper pocket, perfect for tampons, and such.

Under the flap are two deep pockets, perfect for Cell phones, iPods or keys. The strap is a bit thinner than what I would think to see on a bag that size, but no discomfort yet. The silver accents lend a touch of class and the the tucks in the front give it a real feminine look. I like how the bag expands from the sides. It has plenty of room to grow without looking bulky or being uncomfortable. The pattern, I realize is a matter of personal taste, but this pattern seems to be made for this style. Just perfect together.

I have quite a few different styles of Vera. All with different characteristics that I love. When I look at my Saddle Up, it's like Vera took all of these things and put it into one amazing package. I can't begin to tell you all how happy I am with this bag!!

Thanks for the review of Saddle Up! My mom wants that style, and I definately would get one to use as a Disney trip bag. Is the strap adjustable so that you can make it a shoulder bag as well? I love that pattern too. I must have something in it!:worship:

I'm a huge Vera fan. They're pretty, lightweight, durable, washable, etc.

I really want to go to the Outlet Sale in Indiana in the Spring but I don't think DFiance will let me buy any more Vera Bradley bags!!

Wow! I'm almost speechless. I'm so glad that your expensive bags work for you and fit the "professional" image that you need to project. Good for you.

I googled the Longchamps Pliage bags and, while they are cute, I really don't think that it is all that much better than the pretty VB bags that have been discussed here. Actually, I would much prefer a nice fabric to plastic (which according to you any moron would know could be washed - such a nice way to talk to/about family).

I'm lucky enough that being a mom and homemaker is my profession. Therefore, the VB bags suit me just fine. I like them because they are so light. I have a few other bags that are really cute but the decorative buckles and thick linings make them so heavy. I also get bored with my handbags and the less expensive they are, the more I can buy. BTW many of the VB bags are made in the USA.

I just googled them and have to say I would definitely not want to carry one. They look dated to me and just...ugly. Furthermore, asking someone why they are not carrying a bag you gave them as a gift two years ago is very crass.

Is it a real tiny purse? I am guessing it is because of the price.

That's almost the perfect size for me. The purse I carry now most of the time is just a tiny bit bigger than that one.

ETA: Although I like a cross body bag, love to be hands free. ::yes::

Its regularly $45 but on sale for $15. Iassume they are retiring the style so that is why all colors are on sale and the newest ones aren't an option at all. But to answer your question, yes it is a small bag. It will be perfect for dd to carry her phone, and any feminine item discretely in school.

Thanks for the info! I think I am going to get a few of them. For $15, why not? Plus, I can get some non-retired colors. :thumbsup2

To me it looks like a bag that I would have in my car trunk for when I make a quick stop at the market. I would never in a million years carry what essentially looks like a cheap alternative to plastic or paper. I do not carry poorly constructed handbags, as a corporate trainer, I need to look sharp!! and this type of bag is not the corporate image I wish to project. I also don't get the bag lady brand, it looks like something Samsonite would put out for travel. My SIL graced me with her presence this summer and she would not shut up about my extensive, expensive handbag collection. Well, I live in Europe, I make alot of money when I work, and my work is dependent upon abilities but also my professional image. I look at the good quality made in Italy or France as an investment in my career and my earning potential. She then raved about her bag lady brand handbag that had loose threads hanging off of it from poor construction. I asked her why she wasn't carrying the Longchamps Pliage bag that we gave her a few christmas ago, well, it is too fancy and might get dirty!! It is plastic and can be washed, you moron!! She then asked me how much I think she paid for cheap bag, I replied 5 bucks? no, it was 10, I replied it was 5 dollars too much. I did duly note that she does not want to pay for quality and she does not care where things are manufactored. Well, I stated out loud, no more European goodies for you at Christmas, from now on, we will just get you a ten dollar gift certificate for Walmart, where you can buy plenty of cheap crap made in China! Handbags are relative to each individual and their own sense of personal style! So go on and carry whatever you are willing to spend money on:) and makes you happy!!

Wow, what a putz. I can guarantee that the handbag collection you own is no where near what I own. Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Michael Kors and Longchamp are all among the many bags I own!! Many purchased on trips to Europe and many purchased here. I even have a entire glass double door cabinet to house my bags in thier dust bags. But guess what, I own Vera Bradley too! OMG, what a fashion faux paux--call the fashion police out at once!! You are way full of yourself, and if you continue you may force me to post some photo's my handbags!! Now please go away, and buy some more handbags!!

Ooohh pretty please...post a pic, post it!!!

VB bags that I am looking for (my dream list):

-Large duffel in bermuda or petal pink
- Weekender in Paprika or any of the pinks mentioned above

Okay I just placed an order lol:

3 Hannah bags in Cupcakes Green, Mod Floral Pink, and Purple Punch (for my mom's birthday)

I also got the Euro Wallet for her in Symphony in Hue. She is in love with that new pattern!

So excited!!:cheer2: Now I guess I'd better get back to work. ;)

Well I hate to get into a 'wee wee contest' with people, but I cannot stand when people are so arrogant over 'things' that they own. It hardly something to be bragging over, and certainly not something that you make fun of people for. The remarks were mean and condescending in tone.

I totally agree. I must have read that post 6 times and I am still !

If I felt that way about other people and the accessories they like, I'd certainly keep it to myself. I'd be embarrassed to air those kinds of feelings out in the open!:rolleyes1

I *finally* got my first VB bag in the mail yesterday and am using it today for the first time. I got a pink elephants bowler and it is a perfect bag!! Love the shape and functionality. Its so pretty and so cute. I'm loving the black/pink theme.

Oh my goodness, I totally thought you were serious at first and I was almost offended, having already said that I liked Vera Bradley. Then I got to the part about "It is plastic" and thought you must be joking, and then I googled for images of the bag you were talking about and once I saw them I knew you were joking. The really hilarious thing is that I have a bag that looks just like those that I got at the Container Store for $15 to carry vegetables in when I go to the farmer's market. The fact that it's plastic and easy to wash makes it perfect for that! I wouldn't ever envision a professional carrying one, of course - plastic isn't really the thing for professionals, at least around here.

I really would have thought you were serious, though, if it wasn't so over the top. But surely no one would insult somebody by saying they paid too much for their purse, plus be rude enough to ask about why they weren't carrying the plastic purse you gave them, plus call something a "bag lady bag", and brag about an extensive and expensive collection of plastic purses (that part is almost a paradox, isn't it?!) unless they were trying to be funny.

On a more serious note, though - I love that people have such different taste in bags. The world would be a far more boring place if we all liked the same things! (And imagine how hard it would be to tell all our purses apart if we all liked the same bags!;))

Not like I need any more Veras but which one do you think I should get next? I would really like another bucket tote but am stuck on which color to get...should I go for Cupcakes Pink or Carnaby? I am torn because I love both patterns. Most of my Veras are the spring patterns but I think CP is so cute! I was thinking about the new Imperial Toile but I ended up getting a wristlet in that...:rolleyes1

Oh my! The Hannahs are so cheap right now. How did I not know about this? I think my first Vera will be the Hannah in Purple Punch!
