We went over the colors for the vinyl, trim and shutters several times. I had it written down and gave it to him. The contractor's father (they are in business together) started installing them this morning. He's put up 3 pairs already. Wrong color. His father said since they are special order and they have holes in them the vinyl company won't take them back.

This company is highly recommended. I've seen their work. They are very good (except for this). And we waited a long time to get the work done by them, since Spring. Actually he was doing me a favor putting the shutters up. He had to work us in to get just the shutters up before the holidays. They are that booked. Now this.

I'm upset. I don't like the color at all. His father said we could paint them to match the color we wanted (but that defeats the purpose of buying the vinyl shutters to begin with). I haven't been able to reach the owner. He is on another job. I just feel sick about the whole thing.

The bad thing is I've been asking for a contract. It would've prevented the whole problem as it would've spelled out everything. The owner said he'd get it to me. (They are swamped. It's a small company and the owner and his wife run the show and they are in the middle of moving to a new house --- I know, no excuse.) I've been waiting for it but I didn't want to be a nag. UGH. They did install replacement windows in the basement and did an excellent job. We would like to use them for the upstairs next year.

I don't like to be in this position. They are nice. And good people. I'd like for everything to work out. I hate to have them eat the cost of the shutters. It's expensive. And I don't want to be stuck with a color that isn't what I want.

I don't see an easy answer to this one. In the meantime, I have one half of the house with the new shutters and the other half with the old shutters. (His dad's gone to lunch.) The vinyl & trim he ordered (to be put up sometime before Christmas), lord only knows what colors they are.

Man!

Thanks for letting me vent,
Annemarie

How frustrating. I hope this can get worked out to your satisfaction.

I hope that something can be done. Please keep us posted.

Sorry this happened. But you should be paying for what you wanted, not someone else's mistake. I for one would not want to pay for and look at shutters every day if I disliked them as much as you seem to. And I also agree, that to paint them would defeat the purpose of having them.

If I were you, I would nicely but firmly tell them you definately do not want the shutters that they are putting up.

I'm really happy for you that they are taking them back. Before I read your second post I was going to tell you there was absolutely no reason you had to keep something you didn't order. You do not have to take responsibility for somebody elses mistake.

Thanks Boots & Newmousecateer,

I think I'll get a bubble bath & a hot chocolate.

I wasn't going to say anything here about it, but the father got red mud (from another job) on my beige sofa. I hope it comes out.
:( I invited him in to sit a minute while I called his son. (I don't fault him. I just hope it comes out.)

When his dad came back from lunch he brought over an 8 year old (very small frame of a 4 year old) that he is helping through church. He brings him into his home so he can get medical aide and once he is fully recovered he goes home.

Short version of a long story: The contractor's father & I were talking about the medical program earlier in the day and the next thing I know he brings the little fellow over. (I guess I shouldn't have shown interest.) I came outside when the contractor's father came back and was surprised to see the little boy. I said hello. He showed me some of his toys. I don't know. He is a cute little guy. He can't walk. He was on a blanket on my sidewalk. It's a mild day. (I had thought about asking him in, but not knowing him and having a baby not quite a year old I was nervous.) Well, the next thing I know the little guy dragged himself up the stairs and wants to come in. I felt awful. So I let him in. I was a nervous wreck. Trying to keep him occupied and the baby happy. I felt taken advantage of on one hand and I wanting to make the best of it on the other.

I hope he doesn't bring him over again. He was rough with the baby's toys. And he got frustrated with me because he couldn't understand english very well.

What a day.
