VENT: Ted Kennedy!

If he had credible information, yes. I have a feeling though that if they had gone looking it wouldn't have been in Afghanistan.

where would it have been

Everyone has to realize one thing, everything is not so simple. The President is not going to know everything all of the time, and he has to trust his people. There is no state department crystal ball that tells us who to trust and not to trust. The U.N. is incapable of enforcing any of its resolutions. If the democrats get into the white house, don’t expect much from our military, they will cut our funding like they always do, and expect us to do the same quantity and quality of work with old deteriorating equipment. I must say that I'm becoming disillusioned with America, it seems very few feel that anything is worth one's life. The people we fight don't see a difference between Democrat and Republican, black or white, rich or poor, they just see Americans. This will be the case no matter who is in the white house. I fear if we don't stop them now whatever the cost, my son will end up fighting them later. I don't want that.

well stated....

I would love it if the President appeared to know something
some of the time. He's clueless, arrogant and small minded
from where I sit and ...you are right that no one cares about
Democrats and Republicans elsewhere in the world. This guy
is making me look stupid because he's the President of my
country. I deeply resent that. Although I have not always
approved of Ted Kennedy's personal life, he has mostly impressed me as being able to separate personal and federal
business. For that, I am grateful and I respect his opinion
enormously. He could stick Dubaya's foreign policy experience
and knowhow in his sock- Ted Kennedy is a brilliant statesman.
George W. Bush will never be one. His father was. He sadly
fails as a political figure. Hopefully, in less than a year, he can
go back to leading failing companies and leave our country alone.

I wish this was moved to the debate board where I'm not compelled to look at it.
Why does it appear that you all are picking on people for saying negative things about Bush but you can make all the rude, disrespectful remarks about Ted Kennedy that you want. He may not be the President but he has spent a lifetime in public service and, like it or not, his legislation has helped many Americans.

I'm angry at myself for even posting to this because I know there is no point in joining in on this fray.

in all fairness I think the rude, disrespectful remarks have been flying both ways..it's a shame that the unity experienced
after 9-11 has disappeared...

Yes fantasy, you know like the weapons of mass destruction
that our President told you about and everyone just believed
like a bunch of lemmings jumping to their deaths. And talk
about fantasy....now that we know it was all a lie, people just
say it doesn't matter. Now there's a fantasy.

BTW, go to google. Type in "weapons of mass destruction"
and then hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button. Quite funny!
Yep-I'm reminded of fantasy daily thanks to dubaya.

Hey, there's nothing like healthy debate. The fact is, partisan politics have been a part of country since John Adams, and always will be. We are polarized nation, but there's no doubt in my mind when there is a real and credible threat, (like 9-11), we will band together and confront it. The problem most of us have against the war, is that Iraq was not a real and credible threat, and hasn't been since the late 80's/early 90's.

I also don't like that people are going to call George W a military president, when he's hurt the military more than any other president this century. He constantly cuts weapons programs, argues with congress resulting in lower pay raises, cuts reenlistment bonuses, closes commissary's and PX's overseas, and continually seeks to re-deploy soldiers anywhere and everywhere.

But. because he's a Republican, he'll be touted as a military president to get misguided veteran votes. Read the Army Times or join the NCO Academy of America, and see what problems this President has 'caused more than any other.

Not to mention that that while George W Bush was AWOL , John Kerry was getting Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts for facing enemy fire rescuing a comrade in open water. Now of course, the Republicans are trying to downplay Kerry's service as much as possible...because they don't want people to compare him to Bush. I mean...you have to get shot to get a purple heart! There's no denying that! Kerry has the capability to expose President Bush for what he really is, a spineless little coward who's ridden through life on his rich family's coat-tails. He's like...a little whiny King Herod, (Like, in The Passion).

Vote John Kerry and Ted Kennedy...two leaders with REAL cahones.

(That would make a good campaign slogan?)

Can you answer the OP's question? Was TK out of line and incorrect by comparing Iraq to Vietnam? And you can be nice about it you want. In fact, a simple yes or no would suffice.

My answer is yes. It was out of line and totally inaccurate. See, that wasn't so hard.

There sure are a lot of lemmings out there. France, Germany, the UN, the UK, and lets not forget Clinton (both of them), Daschle, Kerry.....

I heard a caller on the Glenn Beck program call Bush a liar. He was then asked by Beck if he thought Clinton was a liar because Clinton said the same thing back in 98(?). The caller said that Clinton was wrong.

Clinton says "SH has WMDs...." and he's wrong.

Bush says "SH has WMDs...." and he's lying.

Nice.

Yes, John, I can answer the OP's question. Kennedy was not out of line, IMO, and yesterday the US Senate debated this point. Even Republican Senators are questioning the June 30 deadline for handover. The concern is that Iraq is becoming a quagmire. The difference in Vietnam and Iraq seems to be that there are many people in Iraq that want a democratic nation. How many is the question and is it worth it to us? How many Americans will we have to sacrifice?

And John, I'm sorry if being nice about it offends you. Being rude and condescending offends me.

LOL

what an interesting take you have on politics and the military,, had Clinton not made some of the biggest military cuts in US history, there wouldn't be a need to redeploy troops today..

you don't even know the Criteria for Award of the Purple Heart....?????

Then you think that there is a comparison between 12 years in Vietnam, losing that war, not finishing the job of helping millions of South Vietnamese, having 58000 soldiers die , an administration (LBJ) that very poorly executed the war that engulfed the entire country and spilled over into two neighboring countries.....

versus

one year in Iraq, defeating and capturing SH, eliminating his two butchering sons, putting an end to the rape rooms, torture rooms and stopping the filling up of mass graves, helping to rebuild an infrastructure that was worse than pre-war estimates, hearing countless (untold in the main stream media) stories of the Iraqi's thanking us for getting rid of SH.

I'd say there is no comparing at this point in time. Now maybe Ted was looking into his crystal ball and seeing the future but I doubt it.

Mickey 88..what are the criteria for Purple hearts and Bronze stars? I am enjoying reading this discussion and there are some interesting views...makes me think...I like that.

here are the criteria...purple heart

no where does it say SHOT .....killed or wounded ..yes....

you could be stabbed in hand to hand combat and receive a purple heart..

Really? And you base this on what exactly?

He constantly cuts weapons programs

I can think of one that he has cut - something for the Army. Care to elaborate on what else he is "constantly" cutting?

argues with congress resulting in lower pay raises,

Lower than what? Payraises under President Bush have been some of the best since I've been in the military, and he's the fourth President I've served under.

cuts reenlistment bonuses

In overage career fields, yes. Why would we pay someone a bonus to stay in a career field that is overmanned? The idea of bonuses is to fill short career fields.

I mean...you have to get shot to get a purple heart!

No, you don't.

There's no denying that!

Yes, there is.

As to the rest of your diatribe against the President, I will once again offer you some friendly advice about making contemptuous comments about the CINC. Incorrect advice from "barracks lawyers" aside, you are subject to prosecution under Article 92 of the UCMJ for the comments that you are making about the President in a public forum in direct violation of DOD Directive 1344.10. You never know for certain who is reading in these forums, and you have linked to your personal website, which provides identifying information about yourself and your location (assuming the info is true, of course).

Just a word of advice.
