Vent: Pajama Day at School

What did she want to wear?

Maybe your problem was with that and not really "pj day" but with her choice?

When my DD had PJ day, granted this was a long time ago, nobody was wearing anything remotely skimpy - just really comfy. Was your dd trying to scam you into letting her wear something -um- more for a young woman or something?

If not, have we all changed your mind??? :)

Since the beginning, she has always been allowed to wear sweats and an oversized disney t-shirt. She put on sweats today (and this were a bit too forming, I bought them for her to wear in the house). She wanted to wear this very loose, and too small and always falling off her shoulder peasant blouse, her father and I both told her no. She does sleep inthis, but just because you sleep in something doesn't make it appropriate to wear to school. She was told this last night also.

No, my mind will never be changed. I dislike pj day, always have, and always will. It is espically hard when your dd never wears pj's and always work nightgowns, so it has been an issue since she was a toddler. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for pj day to be banned from her school.

So you would ruin a fun day for all the other kids and parents that like it and can find something to wear, just b/c your daughter cannot? She should have gone in normal clothes then and be done with it. This is a big deal being made out of nothing. My mother would have put me in my uniform and that would have been the end of the discussion.

Jeez louise -- send the kid in her freaking school clothes and opt out of PJ day if it bugs you that much. Or just keep her home. Don't ruin it for others b/c your child doesn't wear PJs. The world doesn't revolve around your kid.

And, if your kid wants to "fit in", then YOU as a parent should tell her that she can wear this and if she won't wear that, then it's school clothes for her.

Sounds like your child wanted X, you wanted Y, she pitched a fit, you didn't give in, she's mad at you and now you're mad at the school.

my kids loved pj day. However I did not find it becomming to wear a nightgown with thin staps in Feb. That was my only gripe. So we bought warm pj's

agreed...that seems kind of crazy to complain about something that so many other kids have fun with and look forward too....

there really was too much drama in your house about this....and like I said before, 10 is too old to be acting like that. No way would I have let my kid be late to school over a fit!!

Teacher here....

we used to do it at my school.
It was a lot of fun.
Many of us teachers even went out & bought matching pajamas...we looked good!

I'm not sure why we stopped having it...although we seemed to have stopped all the spirit days (crazy hat day, backwards day, etc.)

My kids also love pajama day. I think you problem is more with your daughters behavior (anyone with a dd can relate)then actual pajama day and you may want to wait to cool off before you complain about it.

I don't like kids wearing pajama pants to school as a substitute for pants (I think it looks sloppy and lazy), but I see nothing wrong with a special day to wear pajamas (aka: Pajama day!) even at the higher grade levels (we did it in high school and it was fun!).

What does your DD wear when she sleeps at a friends house, or goes to camp? We use PJ day at school as an excuse to get new PJ's, it often falls in early Feb and all the good sales are on. The kids also get PJ's for Christmas, no raggy sleepwear in my photos please.

Haha sorry that made me laugh! I'm like that too...No raggy clothes in my Christmas pictures either!

Back on topic---PJ Day was always fun. My DS's usually just sleep in boxers, but they've got flannel pants that they can wear to school for PJ Day. Throw on a hoodie or t-shirt and they're set to go. Kids need fun time in school too...not just all work.

When I was in school we had PJ Day about once a year and we read and played Scrabble all day. We were still learning...just in nice comfy clothing.

I can dislike and complain about anything I want thank you! And if I thought for a second that complaining to the school about it would change things, I would in 1 second!!!

I have never liked pj day, ever, for each and every school she has attended. I think it is stupid, and I will always think it is stupid. I am entitled to think it is stupid.

Should I have dragged her out of the house screaming and crying and put her in the car half dressed??? We said no, she pitched fit, I said if you don't put on appropriate clothing you will not make it to choir in time, that was just what happened. End of story. She was not late for school, she just missed something she loves because of her tantrum.

Nobody ever said you HAD to like it. You can think it's stupid. You can vent til you're blue in the face ... but there are loads of other kids and parents who don't think it's stupid and actually enjoy it.

Gotta wonder what happened to you that makes you hate it so much!? Or are you mad that the kids get to kick back for one day out of 190 days!?

Again, you don't have to love it but you sure as heck can opt out of it.

I would have and she would have gotten dressed in appropriate clothes in the car.....I have the queen of pitch throwing living at my house so I know fits......late for school, late for choir whatever..she was still late because she was acting like a 5 year old...

Yes -- you should have. Maybe she would've learned a lesson and she wouldn't throw any more tantrums.

If my 10 yo pitched a fit over something so stupid, I would've hauled his half-naked backside in the car, threw in the clothes and said "Either you put them on or you get dumped off in what you're wearing". My guess is that your kid is gonna scramble into said clothing before she gets to school.

She missed choir b/c of HER tantrum, not b/c of PJ day. You could have straight out told her you do not condone PJ Day and, therefore, she'd be going in regular school clothes.

A two year old throws a tantrum ... a 10 yo should be well over that by now.

Yep...the blame is totally being placed on the wrong thing....this should be a post about a 10 year old having a fit, not bashing a fun school event.

Wait until she's in college, she'll wear PJs to all of her 8:00 AM classes.

You asked for opinions, but you seem to only want people who are agreeing with you that PJ day is inappropriate... You are entitled to your opinion, but others are as well.

I don't think that Pajama Day is inappropriate, but I do think that it is incredibly stupid. ;)
