Are my dh and I the only parents on the planet that think PJ day in school is inappropriate, unless the child is 5 years of age or younger?? My DD10 is in 5th grade, and she had a meltdown because dh and I said what she wanted to wear was not appropriate. She was wearing sweats on the bottom (which was borderline ok, they are a bit form fitting), and she wanted to wear an undershirt or an old shirt that we don't let her wear out anymore, and DH and I both said no, you can wear a oversized t-shirt.

She has now missed Choir (an extra curricular ativitiy).

Why do these educators feel that pj's are appropriate for kids to wear to school????

My kids have always enjoyed pj day at school. Even the high schoolers had it. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as the kids are dressed appropriately. My only complaint is when DD's elementary school had pj day in the dead of winter. It was really too cold for any kind of pjs at the time.

I'm old (47) and we use to have pj day all the time! I loved the brave people that would come in old robes with cream all over their faces and rollers in their hair!

I would usually just wear an old tee shirt and gym shorts. You still had to stay in dress code with your pjs.

My DD's school does this too her school is K-6. For a one day a year thing I think it is fine. But we did have a hard time too finding something to wear this year too. We ended up buying her some PJ pants and a matching T shirt. We didn't feel right sending her in snug fitting PJ pals to school.

I don't know...I agree with you, I think it is stupid.;)

My 10yodd wears oversized shirts as PJ's too...Frankly she hates PJ's that are for sale in stores. I need to sew her own PJ's....I keep saying I am going to.:rolleyes1

When PJ day comes up she will ignore it since she doesn't have any.:lmao:

Funny you should mention it....
My son had PJ Day at his middle school yesterday for winter carnival. I have no problem with it. They were all told and the paper states as follows -
Must be kept appropriate. All dress code rules are to be followed.
NO BOXER SHORTS, NO SKIMPY NIGHTGOWNS
They also had PJ Day when my daughter was in middle school.

I understand that you think it's dumb but what is wrong with pants and an oversized shirt? That was the whole style on the 80's. I can see if she was wearing something revealing but she seems to be all covered up.:confused3

My sons middle and my daughters elementary both have PJ day. There are notices about the type of PJ's that are allowed in both schools.

There is a no boxer rule, no spaghetti strap, underwear on the outside of clothes or lingerie rule as well. (they have to write the no lingerie rule for the middle school)

What is wrong with an oversized shirt??? Well let's see.....you can see their chest through the armholes.:lmao:

My DD's elementary school has PJ Day, and I never had an issue with it:sad2: (my DD is 8). I think it's sorta fun, and it gives me a break from having to deal with her taking forever to pick out what she's going to wear in the morning. I love that she can wake up, comb her hair, eat breakfast, and go to school :teacher:

But everyone has their different things that they have an issue with at their child's school. I have my different issues too, that people don't agree with me on. I guess that's what makes the world go 'round :)

Right slo....

I hate PJ day because my dd does not wear PJ's...We already had this battle a couple of years ago.

Now I try to take her shopping to get some cute PJ's....alas she won't wear them.:headache:

The kids in my DDs high shcool wear PJ bottoms to school quite often, pajama day or not. Even the teachers sometimes do it on Fridays. :confused3 I think it's weird but I guess there's nothing wrong with it especially considering the school condones it.

Why did she miss choir because of this? :confused3

She needs to be at school at 7:30 AM, we need to drive her there. She was melting down, had a tantrum, because we wouldn't let her wear what she wanted to wear. My dh left for work, and there by she missed getting to choir.

watch out for what a school will replace it with if the parents complain too much-as happened at our school:sad2:

we had a pj day and the kids (k-8th) by and large wore sweat pants and large t or night shirts (some of the youngest kids wore actual jammies), when parents complained about it (something to do with cost) the school dropped it and replaced it with a career/professional attire day. they specifically say the kids have to wear an actual 'uniform' that corresponds with a career (and dressy clothes to represent professions that wear suits and such is not permitted). i guess it's o.k. if you happen to work in something like the medical field and have some scrubs to loan your kid, or you work in an area where a buisness logo is printed on a shirt you can lend your kid-but if like dh and i you work(ed) in fileds that had no uniform you were left to spend money buying stuff to put something together which ended up costing more than a cheap night shirt at walmart.

guess i should be glad we're changing schools after next week-ds's teacher did'nt seem too impressed last year when we sent him in a mickey mouse shirt and mouse ears, wearing a pin covered lanyard and carrying maps of our recent visit to the park-he was a 'travel agent':rotfl:

Our kids love PJ day. They wear pj bottoms and an t-shirt usually. DD just wears a tank top under her t-shirt if it is too big. It isn't that big of a deal.

The kids vote of who is wearing pj's and don't consider that pj's so DD doesn't want to wear them. I have no problem with the sweats and t-shirt. DD does.
