So I work in a lawfirm...

Whenever anyone asks me where I am going on vacation, I say Orlando. Everytime someone says "what's in Orlando?" When I say well we enjoy going to Disney and they always want to know oh why are you going to Disney, you don't have kids, why don't you want to go overseas somewhere or to a place for adults.

Sorry. Vent over. I just needed to get it off of my chest because its been driving me nuts.

We get the same thing when they hear we're going to DL.

Us too me 54 and DH 55! Especially from my 87 year old Mother who introduced me to the mouse via the Mickey Mouse Club!!1

Just very politely ask them why they care where you go on vacation? It helps if you look just a bit puzzled when you ask.

I have found that generally results in a change of subject (by them). :teeth:

Get a blissful but faraway look on your face, and breathe, "Because it's the best!"

That'll leave 'em wondering what kind of cult you've joined, thus discouraging any further questions.

If they do ask again, you can expound on the greatness of a Disney vacation to them, ad nauseum. Anyone that frequents this board can easily keep it up for a long, long time. After the fourth or fifth hour of non-stop Disney boosterism, your victim will likely have learned his or her lesson.

We do have a young child, who makes a "good excuse" for going often to WDW. However, our close friends know the truth. When one of our good friends recently found out we bought DVC and have a trip planned for January, he laughed and said, "Well, I know that if anyone on earth is going to take full advantage of a Disney time share, it will be you."

I will also note that several of our friends have already started angling for invitations to go with us... But our family got to us first - we've already got two trips planned with my mom and her SO. Some of our teasing friends honestly don't get it... and some are just jealous. :-)

I get the same response from my co-workers and I do have kids at home (11,15)

From now on I'm going to pick region in epcot or AK to explore and tell everyone I'm going there ... for dinner ;). If they care to explore the topic more the whole truth will come out and perhaps they might have a slightly better appreciation for Disney.

I get it too........from my husband!!! He thinks its cult and that I'm "drinking the Koolaid" :rotfl2: And it sure is delicous!!

Ignore all of those that have nasty things to say because they're just jealous!!

I believe I've read that that WDW is the number one vacation destination on earth. :confused3

Yep we get it too. But guess who they come to when they're planning their Disney vacations.

Dh and I just got back from our trip without the kids. Everyone asked how Disney was and if the kids had fun. Each of them asked why in the world we went to Disney if we were going without the kids.

What I don't get is why people don't think it's strange that it is one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world. Most of those folk don't have/bring kids.

I have a DD6 and I get it....In fact DD asked me the other day.....Mommy Why do we go to Disney so much:lmao: :rotfl2:

I told her because it is the best place on earth....and she is free to stay home next time;) .....She didn't think that was a good idea:laughing:

I just say I love it....and thats the end of that.

I've turned the table on one of my coworker who used to say the same thing to me. When I found out they're going on ANOTHER beach vacation I asked them "So I heard you're going on a vacation soon. I'm so jealous. Where are you going?"... ;) ... When they answered "Oh we're going to Long Beach blah blah blah..." I said " Again? Didn't you guys just go to the beach on your last vacation? Why on earth would you want to lay on the beach all day everyday again?"... LOL!!! That got him sputtering and after that he never said another word about my disney vacations :thumbsup2

I know... I'm evil... hehe...
But you can change the "Long Beach" vacation to an "Up north ATV-ing", or "Going to our lake house", or "a cruise", or "boating", or "fishing", or "golfing"...
It works well to make them think twice about commenting on my vacation in the future... "

My DH's side of the family are all Dis Lovers too but my side just doesn't understand. They don't want to "waste" their money because their kids are too young to "remember" the experience.

I am curious to see what people's experiences are when they told friends and family when they bought into DVC. Someone I didn't like much anyway, "blasted" me for buying into DVC saying it was a waste of money, a bad investment, flights are too expensive to go to FL(from CA), etc. She wouldn't drop it and I could not get a word in to defend myself. Of course, this all happened before I even used DVC.

Let's just say I refuse to speak to her since then and if we see each other, the reception is well, chilly. She is now my Dis Villain: The evil queen in Snow White!

The best part is after returning from the most wonderful family vacation, my villain walked right past my house while I was gardening. She had to brag about her daughter getting sprinkled with pixie dust because she had first row seats at Disney on Ice here in SAcramento. Well, I got to say: My daughter went on a week long Disney Cruise and spent 7 nights at the AKL with a Savannah view. Every morning we woke up to zebras and giraffes and we spent our days and evenings enjoying all the fabulous parks.

Hmm...sounds shallow of me but I say our experience tops Dis on Ice! :woohoo:

Has anyone shared this experience?

Don't you know they're eyes of envy? :goodvibes We have a lot of Disney nuts in our department, two of us are DVC owners, and many more just keep going on the vacations (two this summer already). They all know why we keep going back. All they ask now is " Where did you stay this time"? :thumbsup2

Haven't told anyone in my family (other than the kids) I've bought in for fear of a similar reaction. My parents have their snowbird nest not too far form Disney and don't understand why I'd want to waste my money paying to be on-site when we could stay with them for free. Mom was very hurt last feb when we were there and chose to stay at VWL... but we did see her and kept her & dad from getting the flu we brought with us!

I just tell them because we're Disney phenatics and what could possibly be better than "the happiest place on earth"!?

People just don't "get it". They see a cheap amusement park with rollercoasters in their head and that's all that they can comprehend. When someone is particularly obtuse and rude about it, I usually respond with "you just don't 'get it', do you?" and "we love Disney vacations so much, we bought a Disney timeshare so we can go for 6 weeks of the year every year". That usually stops further stupid questions.

My favorite response is this: "Aren't you bored of Disney yet?" I got this from a co-worker once and once from my boss. My response to both was this: "I am bored of YOU, bored of this office, but the day I ever get bored of my Disney vacations you might as well just shoot me!"

Screw them... Disney is for everyone. I think my husband get more excited then our 2 yr old..... If you enjoy it, then it is nobody's business where you go... It is our 6th time there this year. My son has been there more times then to see his grandparents in NY....

Enjoy the Magic!!!

I LOVE IT! Can I borrow that line?
